I remember a match at Soccerplex when Dema got steamed about being jostled and made it clear that he wanted revenge. I started screaming at our coach (pre-Benny; don't remember who) to take Dema out before he got red-carded. The coach looked at me with incomprehension and,a minute later Dema was red-carded, appropriately, for a vicious challenge.
Felipe was the first one over to the supporters sections to celebrate on Sunday night, well before the others. Seemed to be having a blast dousing people with his water bottle. I've turned. No need for people to boo him anymore. He's bringing it for the team IMO.
Oh, sweet, I've been waiting for this topic for ever! I still remember flipping through channels in the early 2000s just in time to see an indoor soccer match where Tony Meola was pulled out of the net so his team could field another field(?) player because they were losing. I laughed. So hard.
That's another thing I miss about RFK: doing the same thing behind the goal in the old "garage." Best memory of that is a couple years ago (I believe v Chicago and S Johnson) when we ended up scoring 5 goals. After we went up 3 it was delightful to constantly remind him of how long that flight home was gonna be.... more fun was near the end when DeLeon finally made his return on field and I am telling Johnson "here it comes again, here comes the pain and its gonna be from DeLeon" and damn if he didn't score 20 seconds later! SJ actually looked back at me when I yelled "see, I told you so." Doesn't get any better than that. I have to say I am disappointed in our vaunted athletic supporters section - they don't seem razz the other players. It seems all they do is belt out the same innocuous chants over and over with a few "F U Ref" chants as needed and give out the clap once in a while but nothing specific to a team or the GK or any other player. And they are actually closer to the opposing players and can be more distracting than we ever were at Rocky Raccoon's Riverside B&B. Several times now I have spent a half or so in the supporters section up high, in the middle w the ultras and drums, and lower down, and I have not heard them go after the other team/players like we used to. What's the point of having a supporters section if it's not going to provide any intimidation? Seriously, the drums are sometimes in rhythm but are never intimidating to players. In the interest of full disclosure, I have not been down in the lowest rows during the first half when the opposing team is defending the north goal so perhaps some are doing it - but it sure doesn't seem like it. I think we ought to attack the north goal second half so the supporters section has a better opportunity to turn up the intimidation factor especially if the game is on the line.
I'd make just a couple of tweaks to Q*bert's most excellent list: 1) Dominic Kinnear. He was in the stands at RFK after a rain delay and we got in a fight and he sucker punched me - and I was thrown out not him. Jackass. 2) I would remove NYCFC fans. When I went to a match there in United gear they could not have been more gracious and welcoming - honestly. 3) Zack Thornton. Sure I made sure he knew he ate too many pies back in the day, but now that he coaches Bill H I have nothing but respect for him. Had a few discussions with him and found him to be down to earth with a good sense of humor about the past.
While all of Atlanta United made the list, I think special vile should go toward Guzan for filling a roster spot on the USMNT that he frankly never deserved.
Bruce Arena? The downside: 1. Manager of LAG 2. USMNT manager --> T&T debacle 3. Manager of Revs Upside: 1. First and greatest DCU manager 2. Established winning tradition (that will someday return, under new ownership) 3. Took shots at current DCU ownership as visiting Revs manager Can't concur with him being on the list. He needs a statute at Audi, IMHO. His time with DCU outshines all else, or else our club means nothing.
He wouldn't be on my list but as I can say I can understand the reasoning of someone putting him on their list.
