The last guy on Olsen's sub bench gets the tieing goal. Lucho draws a penalty, Señor Wayne with the spot kick. All in the last 4 minutes. What a bizarre game. With the rain starting in overtime, 3 goals in the last 7 minutes of overtime -- this really was a 'Plex type of game. A few observations: 1. A really good crowd on a Wednesday night and 7:00 PM start. West stands were pretty much full up and the SG's were at least half full. 2. Traffic sucked ass, took me 45 minutes from Old Town to the AF. But, I ate at All Purpose for about the same price as the stadium and got a real pizza and a glass of Black Wing black lager. 3. Griffin Yow is a keeper. He's still raw, but he's got that edge you need in offensive players. Not afraid to take defenders on and is looking for the move or the shot whenever he's in the attacking third. 4. Bustamante was OK. He played like he didn't want to make a mistake, problem is when you do that you have very little impact on the game. 5. Mora really is in a class by himself. Watching him toeing the touch line out left, you realized how integral he is to DCU's ability to spread the field. Glad to see him back and none the worse for wear. 6. I guess O-A and Ward were abducted by aliens. That's the only way that I can see Robinson getting the start. 7. Actually the team did well with a patchwork D-mid set up. The following guys rotated through there tonight: Jara, Bustamante, Rodriguez and Rooney. 8. I thought Seitz played well, no Ousted moments -- he just took care of business.
apparently O-A was in the original line up but I guess he was injured in the warm up or otherwise couldn't go
Wayne Rooney now has 23 goals in 46 national Cup appearances (F.A. Cup and U.S. Open Cup). This does not include 7 goals in the English League Cup or 40 goals in 105 Euro cup matches.
The slick passing between Rooney and Acosta was back. Not sure whether it was because of the quality of the opposition (I don't think that was their best defensive line up), or whether it was the return of Mora's flank play that created more space in the middle of the field. Of course, I hope it's the latter. Time will tell.
Seriously. He was all over the field. His passing was spot on. Poise on the ball and distribution from the d mid position was Pirlo esque. Service on set pieces was outstanding. This created several scoring chances and forced their keeper to make tough decisions all night. Scored a beautiful pk. Gotta give him credit. Impressive.
Great to see Mora back! I think the momentum finally changed when Robinson went out and Jara moved over to play right back, so there was somebody with some skills on that side. Was Stieber away with Hungary?
I was more impressed by Yow than anyone else. Really excited about his future but, honestly is it fair to say he should be a ahead of Quincy on the depth chart? He didn't show his age/inexperience at all
He should be the first attacking option off the bench. All the 88th minute subs when down a goal should be his.
Still to be announced. Has to be played between 18-23 June. The only day they possibly could to avoid a same time DH with the Nationals is Sunday, but would they really do that when they have an MLS match on the 26th?
staff claimed "about 5,000 attendance. FO finally exercvising some brain cells - - it seems only the west and north stands were open for GA seating; makes it look better.
