Well... just when you thought this team was done and dusted... Perhaps they can limp into the playoffs with a road game. I don't see a 4th place finish as very likely at all. But they'll have a 5 point lead over the 8th place team (likely to be Montreal) if they can hold onto this 3-0 lead. But I do remember a road game vs. Seattle that they led 3-0 and blew somehow... so it's possible.
And we're up 3-0 before halftime, on the road, and look good doing it. Alright, that's it: no more uber-early pregame threads, no cute baby animals, nuthin'.
We haven't looked real good since the 3rd goal, but we are up 3-0, so giving up a little possession is not unexpected. I really wish that we had had Kamara (or some striker) for the first half of the season. It's just nice to have a player that is in the right place to score more than occasionally. This half was a lot more fun than I was expecting an hour ago
We’ve reached the point of the blowout broadcast where Dave and Joanna are talking about women’s soccer. Surprisingly it’s DC doing the blowing out.
Meanwhile, the Laughing Cows go down at home like cheap Reno whores, to the Crapids. As of this writing, Atlanta "United" and Philthy are tied 1-1. Let's hope that result holds, too.
They were giving me some severe angst by not playing keep away the last several minutes. Booting the ball blindly downfield is not keep away.
So Mrs. Adler and I are walking into Maggie McFly's (Springfield Towne Center) this lovely evening. In the street where it belongs, I spot a can of Laughing Cow, already crushed flat as a pancake (as is only proper). Nevertheless, it's in my path, which is completely unacceptable. After a lazy kick fails to clear it from my sight, I stoop to fling the f***ing thing further afield, much to the amusement of the aforementioned Mrs. Adler. After we're seated, I excuse myself to go to the boys' room to wash-off whatever unspeakable stench might still be present. Then, the can's namesake "soccer team" proceeds to lose at home, in front of not quite all 68 if their "devoted" "fans". And DCU plays one of it's better matches all season. A good evening was had.
With that goal/shot ratio in the first half, gotta admit that we were a bit lucky tonight. But as they say, luck favors the brave. DCU definitely came out and matched the home team's energy. Defensive shape and spacing were excellent. Dmids and flank defenders stayed home for the bulk of the match. So, we definitely had a defense first mentality, but we did try to attack when the opportunities presented themselves. As others have said, great to have a proven target man up front in Kamara. The team is still learning his tendencies. I can recall at least a few times that Kamara made excellent early runs in the box, only to have a wide player elect not to send in a cross. I think the wing attackers aren't used to someone making those runs. The chemistry should actually get even better. Fun game to watch and a vital 3 points. Great to go into the break on a win. Vamos!
Interesting. So, does Benny have the audacity to stick with this line up, even with Rooney available? Or does he stick with the same concept (similar defensive shape and mentality), but take a risk and insert Rooney and or Acosta in to the attack? Tough decision.
Good match but I am not going to hold my breath, NYRB has one game in hand (-1 point from us), New England 2 games in hand (-3), Toronto 2 games in hand (-4), Orlando also 2 games in hand but they are too far behind (-8) so I am not worried about them. Montreal 5 points below with same games played. I don't specifically know the remaining games of the others but we play away at Portland and NYRB, two traditionally wery difficult fields for us, or at least in recent years. At home we play Seattle - which I believe at home we only have beaten once - and Cinci the last game. So we basically have only one easy game, the rest are very difficult, and particularly the the aways.
A good night for the good guys, but ... A total defensive contest. This team might still make the playoffs, but won't go very deep. I don't have FloSports, but was able to watch the game at the friend's house. The feed crapped out 3 times.
I see us as extremely likely to make the playoffs, but very likely to be 6th or 7th. If we can get a draw at redbulls *maybe* we finish above them, but I doubt it. Those other teams have a mixed bag of games I think.
There’s a pretty good chance we draw Atlanta in the first round. Nocking them out would be teh awesome.
