Unbelievable exposure. It seems to make all the sense in the world, unless there is something to be known that we don't about the guy, but it's a slam dunk.

Exactly what I'm worried about. Dax McCarty is way to good for FCD to leave unprotected. Is he heading to Europe? Mexico? Are there seemingly some sort of contract issues?

I don't like it. Something smells fishy.

he re-signed with Dallas last year to a pretty lucritive deal. Itd have to be a transfer if anything.

But its not exactly secret that Dax and the Dallas head coach dont get along at all. Its like Nowak and Convey those two. Dallas feels they have a surplus at DM. Their loss is Portlands gain.

    Slam-dunk #1. A jaw-dropping exposure, IMHO.

Then Vancouver snatches him up. It was stupid to expose him hes as good as gone. Might as well go to Portland. Dallas's first round pick and allocation money is not worth the backbone of the team for potentially the next decade.

Not if Portland picks a Dallas player first, then they can add another player to their protected list... such as Dax.

Not saying it's going to happen. Just saying that was mentioned in the article. It would be the whole reason to give money/picks to Portland to pick Avila and then they could protect Dax. Haven't delved deep enough to see if that makes any sense. Such as: did they have so many internationals that they had to leave a good American unprotected? And is this a hypothetical solution for them to keep Dax?

Like I said, just discussing that article, not advocating.

I don't think he's headed to Europe. There are a couple of reasons why he was exposed. First, Fcd is getting into cap trouble. Second, it's very possible that they are changing from the 4-5-1 to a diamond 4-4-2. Dax thrives as a linking mid between the attacking and defensive mids but doesn't fit well in either of those roles. And if the team is to improve at the striker position while staying beneath the cap, then some high priced non-starters will have to go.

Article with the FCD technical director

“We had a lot of inquiries about Eric Alexander,” Gorman told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday night. “He has shown a lot of promise and he came on very well. At his numbers, he’s very attractive to an awful lot of teams. We knew that if we left an Eric Alexander unprotected, and if we left a Zach Loyd unprotected at their numbers, they’d be gobbled up.”

Basically it comes down to his cap number and a cheaper replacement that they didn't want to lose.
