Not necessarily. There are two conditions. You should never be gone longer than 6 months. You need to be physically present 30 months out of the 5 years.

It's tough to not leave for six months if you are playing professionally in another country.

Oh boy, you missed the boat. Here's a scenario to make it easy.
Darlington can play 2 more seasons in MLS after this one, get those 30 months of continuous presence in the US. After that he can go to Europe. As long as he comes visit family a couple of weeks on Christmas and summer then he's good to apply after five years are up. If he's married then he can do the same with 1.5 years in the US and 1.5 years in Europe.

Oh boy did you ever miss the boat. (<--- Not sure why that was necessary, but if you want to snarky maybe you should at least know what the hell you are talking about).

Nagbe won't need five years. He'll need 3 years after December. He will need to have been in the US for 18 of 36 months, which leaves 18 months where he could go abroad.

Of course since you missed that boat, you probably also missed the boat where you have to be in the United states from the time of your application until the citizenship oath ceremony.

Did that make it easy for you?

Sorry about that one - it's really just a reflex of mine. I was actually trying to find a funny way to work in 'starter marriage' without sounding mean, but I couldn't, and I do wish the new couple well.

Back to marrying more than one woman, in Spanish 'esposa' means wife and 'esposas' means handcuffs. Enough said!

Well they have produced 11 MLS players in just the last few years, so they could challenge the current Akron team if the wedding is happening in town. But who would be their goalkeeper?
Actually, they probably wouldn't need one...

He's come out of the gate strong this year. A little less than three years until is eligible for us. It's a long wait but I think Darlington is just going to keep raising his game, so should be well worth it.

It's too bad that a guy mentioned earlier in the thread (Danny Mwanga) doesn't seem to be a viable future candidate for them national team anymore.

Yeah but a 21 yr old who is in his fourth pro season and doesn't appear to be getting any better. In fact his contributions have diminished every year since his strong rookie year in 2010.

Obviously it's too early to write him off but it doesn't look good right now, he's played all of 18 minutes this year and has a rookie forward ahead of him on the depth chart.

I wouldn't be shocked if he was out of the MLS entirely in a couple of years.

I know you're joking but the dude may not even be playing in 5 years at the rate he's going.

No idea. How many #1 overall picks have been cut by an MLS team?
