The above quote is from the Newly Adopted Community Forum Guidelines. Please explain why myself and several other Newcastle supporters were banned from Yanks Abroad. Are we not allowed to have a dissenting view in Yanks Abroad? I challenge you to show me a post I made that violated the TOS in fact you seem contradict the Forum Guidelines on a regular basis.

Could I please get a ban from YA for myself.

I fear stupidity is contagious and I don't trust myself not to go back in there.

Jaypro - I already told you what personal attacks you were making via PM. I'm sorry, but we have strict moderating standards on Yanks Abroad, and you Newcastle folks have shown an inability to have any sense of humor about what folks post there.

Dissenting views are one thing, but every Gooch thread turning into Newcastle vs. YA is another.

So what about in my case? A YA poster stated "and I thought we were delusional." I replied "you are delusional." Can you tell me exactly what was wrong with that, and where even a half truth or lie was told?

It's a personal attack and it does nothing to improve the civil discourse in the forum. You were only warned for it - not forum banned. You guys really, really need to lighten up.

I'm curious, did the other poster get a warning? His only contribution to the thread was the above posted quote. Was he doing something to help improve the civil discourse of the forum? Knowing Newcastle fans are in there discussing the game and play of Gooch would lead me to think he was looking for trouble...

Are you being serious? This much agita over a warning with 0 points? At least Jaypro has more of a complaint. Newcastle fans are guests of the forum and every Gooch thread has turned into the same running argument about goals scored vs. defense etc. etc. and none of you guys seem able to stop.

I don't know why you guys get worked up because someone on YA doesn't write what you want about your club and seem unable to have any humor about it - but it's not a Newcastle forum. If Yanks post stuff you don't like in the Newcastle forum - I fully support your mods warning those posters or showing them the door too.

I was just trying to see if the YA handicap is true, and it certainly is. The YA regulars can say whatever they want no matter who to and get away with it, but the second someone responds (even in a civil way) they are warned. I'm not even going on about the warning with 0 points, because that is irrelevant. My point is that there seems to be a double standard in that forum.

What sense of humor do you want? Do you not read the Newcastle forums to see where we're coming from? All we have in there is sarcasm as we accept what team we support. It's the way people are trying to blame the club, and other parts of the team for the mistakes Gooch is making. But of course, this is to be expected because no YA has ever been at fault in a game.

Put the exact same thread in the Newcastle forum, and I guarantee the shoe would be on the other foot...as it should be.

    1. There isn't a YA handicap - we are much more lenient with trolling posts than many forums such as in some of the English club forums and we don't make over the top personal attacks on such posts like I've seen club fans make to "invading posters" in their own forum. To be fair, some of this is because Yanks Abroad is a little different than a club forum and there isn't the same sort of rivalry or animosity, but the point remains. Forum bans and warnings about trolling go on all the time in other forums but when we do it in YA it clearly is a huge "double standard".
    2. "The second someone responds" they are warned? I'm a little disappointed that you are exaggerating in this way because this has been going on for a long time - ever since Gooch went to Newcastle - and I have cautioned a YA regular in the process twice, so your point about YA posters never get warned is incorrect. The YA poster I warned responded "OK" - whereas you guys act totally shocked. Double standard? - if by that you mean guests of the forum need to behave as guests and be civil and not troll, then yes. Calling us YA idiots and fanboys qualifies as trolling. You guys seem to be having trouble grasping that concept.
    3. You may have sarcasm about the club you chose to support in your own forum, but in ours you guys honestly come across as really bitter and angry. To quote a regular:

Why the hell should it be? What is the point of a site like this if discussion is confined to your own board and only with the regulars? The very few (thankfully) parts of BS that operate in that manner are awful. If members do not have the intelligence to discuss a subject with everyone or cannot hack someone disagreeing with the party line then they should ******** off to whatever official board their club has and leave everyone on BS in peace.

Cuz some people (um, like me) have written some pretty negative shit about NUFC and their fans. A post pointing out that Newcastle can't score, so looking at a defender as the source of their problems is weird should be OK. But saying, oh, I don't know, that the problem with NUFC is that they're too small for the CL but their fans don't see that, so the fans put unrealistic and ultimately counterproductive expectations on management, that'd be pretty rude in the Newcastle forum.

I mean, what I wrote is true and all, but if a woman asks you if she's gotten fat, you say no, no matter how much junk she has in the trunk. The Zenger defense works in saying negative stuff about NUFC in YA, but it doesn't, and shouldn't, work in the Newcastle forum.

I finally agree with you... I got also a yellow card with no points for the same reason.. I disagreed with someone from the YA board i think and he attacked me and I defended myself but only me got a card.. so all I gotta do is post there with some regularity and then I get the inmunity right?

This isn't about agreeing with the party line - there are many of people who have doubts about Gooch as a player that are YA fans. There are YA fans that have said, for example, that Gooch was at fault for this or that goal. But when posters continue to wreck threads over and over again with humorless and endless debate including comments about idiot YA fanboys, etc. -- it eventually gets tedious and disruptive. One poster on this thread has some 70 posts on YA so it's not like he was instantly censored.

Gooch very well may suck - and folks have been free to say so. But we have forums for Rivalry debates for this very reason - they don't appeal to the majority of us on Yanks Abroad. Despite the reputation of mindless fanboys - most of us just want to support our players and don't blame their mistakes on everyone else or whatever conspiracy.

BTW - we're very easy about removing bans - just acknowledge what's been going on and agree to stop.

I agree - it's pretty mild. But like I said, it's the persistent nature of these debates that are the problem. Again, this has been going on for a while.

You didn't get a card - you were warned. We warn, card and forum ban YA regulars too.

No you don't have strict moderating standards on YA, you have biased moderating standards. And that's why there will always be problems with threads like this until the moderating improves significantly. When people who are critical of YA are always the ones that are warned/banned, whereas those on the "other side" can be as abusive as they like without incurring moderator wrath, you are pretty much guaranteeing issues and a joke of a forum. And, no, jri, isn't a good argument that this isnt the case!

Why isn't jri a good argument? Because it doesn't fit your theory?

Sorry M - I know you don't like me, but we kept you around as long as we did for the very reason that you offered a different perspective to balance out the more exuberant posters. However, eventually, your bedside manner wore out your welcome and it got to the point where you could post the most innocuous post and it became a disruption. Honestly, you are the best case we have for how tolerant we are of opposing viewpoints.

Because banning one utter clown doesn't indicate a pattern of unbiased moderating.

Actually, I think I'm the best case for why the moderating is the problem. As you say, it came to the point where an innocuous post was a disruption. Why did it get to that point? Because you allowed many other posters to be abusive in response. Had you nipped that in the bud by applying unbiased moderating at an earlier stage, the problems wouldn't have arisen. You chose not to address the real issue, just like you're choosing not to address the real issue now.

I don't dislike you; I just think you moderate that particular forum extremely poorly.

I got banned because I used the term fanboy( to no one in particular mind you) once in a post according to your PM. Yet in that same post I provided 5 links in which posters unfamiliar with Newcastle could find further information regarding the club and Gooch's performance relating to his time with the Toon. However it's apparently alright for me to be called Eurosnob, idiot, delusional among other personal attacks. As far as my relevance to the thread I'm a fan of the USMNT and NUFC and I grew up in the same town as Gooch. Don't my opinions matter in any performance related discussion? He happens to be one of my favorite players, but unfortunately he's performance as of yet have not be up to snuff. I have every right to speak the truth and point out inaccuracies in other posters comments.

Is fanboy more derogatory than eurosnob?
