I had hoped to find some highlights of the Danish Cup final that I could post, but unfortunately there are non... In any case, FCN beat FCM just as it was the case in last seasons Cup final, so two Danish Cups in a row for FC Nordsjælland, while this was a huge disappointment for FCM, not only because they also lost last year, but because they have now been in 4 Cup Finals since the club was founded in 1999 and have lost them all.

If they have the same points, they then look at the goal difference first.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 32 (of 33) :

Brøndby lost their chance of playing Champions League qualifiers, despite a quick goal by their American defender Clarence Goodson, but they could not hold on to their lead against FC Nordsjælland despite playing at home, while OB Odense secured the league Silver when they "crushed" the Champions FC København at home by 3-0 in this round 32. So considering the results, it's quite deserved that Odense are going to be the team that is playing in the 3rd Qualifying Round for Non-Champions. The Odense management have also said, that they are going to reinforce the team for the CL qualifiers, while it is a big question how strong FCK are going to look next season, because they are losing manager Ståle Solbakken, several key defenders and also Jesper Grønkjær who has just said, that he is going to retire at the end of this season. So we are not only talking about a new coach, but also about the replacement of several of their key players.

As for the relegation battle at bottom of the league, then it took another surprising turn, when Lyngby managed to beat Silkeborg away, perhaps also because Silkeborg had already saved themselves from relegation and had nothing to play for. Esbjerg also managed a win at home against Horsens, so now especially AaB Aalborg could suddenly be in serious trouble, because they face the Champions FCK away in their last match, and the FCK players undoubtedly want to say a proper goodbye to coach Solbakken, Grønkjær and the other players who are leaving the club, so there is little chance they will go easy on Aalborg in their last match of the season at home in Parken. Should AaB lose to FCK in Parken (as should be expected), then Lyngby, Randers or even Esbjerg could leave one of the two relegation spots to AaB.....

Lyngby are facing OB Odense at home in their last match... a tough task you may think, but Odense have now secured their Silver medals by beating FCK at home, so an absolute unimportant away match in Lyngby is hardly something that can keep the Odense players motivated, especially with their summer vacation being just around the corner. Esbjerg and Randers are going to face each other on the last match day, so one of them are going down, while the other team most surely are going to escape relegation, unless of course they hold each other to a draw, so they both go down.

As written, it is the goal difference that counts, but I forgot to add, that if the goal difference and score is also exactly the same, like if Esbjerg beat Randers by 4-0, and AaB lose by 1-0 to FCK, so that they end up with exactly the same score, then we get a relegation rematch between Esbjerg and AaB ... and if ther is no winner of this match, it will be decided in extra time or eventually in a penalty shoot-out, just like it would be the case in a Cup final.

    Hello guys,

could you please tell me who are the best three centre backs of the Danish league except the Copenhagen players ?

I'm currently seeking information about fast, skillful and reliable central defenders and would be glad if you could help me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Carnifex

    Hello Carnifex,

I am not from Denmark but i am watching Superliga for more than a season.

I think Goodson from Brondby, Bjelland from Nordsjaelland and Bak Nielsen from Midtjylland are one of the best centre backs of this league.

But Ceres is the one who knows most about superliga in this forum, i'm sure he willl help you.

    Superliga 2010/11, round 33 (of 33) :

Despite FC København taking home the Championship several weeks ago and picking up a record 81 points, the 33rd and very last round still became more exciting that ever, because the relegation battle in the Superliga has never been as close as this year. In fact, the relegation spots changed hands no less than seven times during this last round and the final change came in the 89th minute of the match between Randers and Esbjerg. The players knew that only a victory would be enough to escape relegation, and in fact the Esbjerg players knew that they had suffered relegation by the time they scored the goal that also sealed the fate of their opponent by holding them to a fatal 2-2 draw. Though it was Randers dominating early on, they lost their grip in the 2nd half as the match progressed and they looked more and more worried, desperately defending a 2-1 lead, but the two goals by Jonas kamper was not enough.

As expected, the last round became a real FCK celebration party in Parken, and Aalborg quite frankly didn't stand much of a chance. So by the time Randers took their 2-1 lead at the end of the first 45 minutes, Jesper Grønkjær scored an absolutely brilliant goal against his former club AaB, that could have sealed their fate, if not for the last minute miracle in Randers. But first the Aalborg fans had to suffer all the way throughout the 2nd half, because they were down two goals and Lyngby not surprisingly took the lead against an Odense team that had nothing to play for, while Randers were also holding on to their lead. but then came the last minute miracle, when Esbjerg equalized through a header by their Dutch striker Tim Janssen, a goal that really didn't matter to Esbjerg as Lyngby had won their match against Odense, but it sealed the fate of Randers that suffered relegation instead of AaB Aalborg, so Tim Janssen, who now most surely is leaving Esbjerg, became the hero hero of Aalborg, because he saved them from relegation, so perhaps he could become the new striker they have been looking for ? .

So both teams that won promotion last season (Horsens and Lyngby) managed to stay clear of relegation, which is the first time in the history of the Superliga, this has happened. Instead Esbjerg and Randers have suffered relegation and will be replaced by HB Køge and Scandinavia's oldest professional club AGF Aarhus, The same two clubs that both suffered relegation last season, but have made a quick return to the Superliga. In fact the AGF supporters no doubt found it to be some sort of “irony of fate” that they will now replace Randers, considering Randers miraculous "Houdini" escape in last season relegation battle, but perhaps also partly because AGF also won the Danish 1. Division exactly 25 years ago, in the same season when both Esbjerg and Randers suffered relegation as well, so this was a bit like history repeating, though back then the Danish 1. Division was the top-flight level in Denmark, because the Superliga had not yet been invented. But here are the final standings from back then : http://www.haslund.info/danmark/dt/1986/div1.asp

In the battle for the Bronze medals, Brøndby could easily have won by a far greater margin away against SønderjyskE, but they settled for a 2-0 win and the Bronze medals, while FC Midtjylland never really came close to beating FC Nordsjælland in a match that finished 0-0.... In the only match of absolute no real importance Silkeborg beat Horsens when the young Estonian international Kaimar Saag and Faroese international Christian Holst were the two players who impressed, by Saag scoring the goals and Holst making both assists, so that Silkeborg finished in a very unlikely 5th place, despite having been among the favorites for relegation.

So what about next season you may ask ?... will the relegation battle be just as tight and interesting and will FCK look just as strong at the very top of the league ?... well, I think the relegation battle will be more or less as tight, because it was two unlikely teams that suffered relegation, So Horsens and Lyngby are also going to struggle this season, just as the other smaller teams Silkeborg, newly promoted HB Køge and the "usual suspect" SønderjyskE that has also lost their head coach Michael Hemmingsen who has just resigned, so he can join Randers in their quest for a quick return to the Superliga... also FC Nordsjælland are losing their head coach Morten Wieghorst who has been signed as the new Denmark U-21 NT manager and this could be a huge blow for FC Nordsjælland that most surely also could end up in a relegation battle... AaB Aalborg are still not quite out of the woods financially. At least 8 or 9 players are leaving the club, so we are going to see some major changes to their squad this summer, which could bring them in trouble at the bottom half of the league next season as well. As for AGF Aarhus, then it will depend on how much and how well they are going to reinforce the team this summer. The rumour is, that they are close to signing Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen from Celtic and Lyngby key midfielder and top-scorer Kim_Aabech plus one or two more fairly big reinforcements.

At the very top of the table FC københavn are also losing their manager Ståle Solbakken and some of their key defenders as well, Oscar Wendt, Zdenek Pospech and Mikael Antonsson, not to forget, that the absolute FCK Star player Jesper Grønkjær is going to retire, so I'm quite positive that FCK are going to struggle more and are not going to win the Danish league this easily next season, with a new coach and a new defense. Though they do have their first defensive replacement in place, the 25-yo Icelandic centre back Ragnar Sigurdsson who has been signed from IFK Göteborg :

I totally agree about Andreas Bjelland who has everything you need to be a great defender, perhaps except for age and experience, while it perhaps is a bit too soon to talk about Goodson since he has not played that much Superliga, due to his long-term injury when he moved to Brøndby, but he looks promising...

otherwise, it's a bit difficult to say, because it all depend of what you are looking for in a centre back.. a real experienced captain in defense .... a tall strong header, or the one who is clever at moving the ball up-field.... only the exceptional few have it all...

Fast, with good stamina and heading abilities.

For example: What's your opinion on Nikolaj Högh from Esbjerg ?

I might be at the wrong place, but I´m just curious if there are any danish guys that collect football games.

I´m looking forward to the next season with all the crazy stories already emerging. FC Copenhagen that might lose their half starting 11. A hedgefond that wants to buy players for Brondby. How many players will Randers lose ??

Nikolaj Høgh is an above average player. Good in the air, strong tackles, good attitude, but like many danish league players, he only performs 110 % against good teams.

Costa Rican player Dennis Marshall (Aalborg) died today with his wife in a car accident in Costa Rica.

He scored the goal for CR in the 1-1 tie against Honduras in the Gold Cup, last saturday.

    Shocking and sad news :(

Yes, it has left the entire football-loving part of the city of Aalborg in a state of chok - I know, because it's my hometown. The aalborg players have given statements about him and how he and his wife really tried and succeeded in settling in to the danish way of life, how he was a friendly, funny and easily likeable guy and how he dedicated himself to a professional lifestyle and to succeed and grow as both a footballer and person.

And while we're all saddened by the sudden loss of a young, talented football player, one must also remember that his young wife also perished in the accident and that there are two families in Costa Rica who has lost a son and a daughter respectively. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences goes to them all. :(
