Particularly after Lamar Hunt sued the Wolff family, the Disgrace and 10 TV lost a lot of interest in Crew doings. They were very supportive initially.
Maybe back in the olden days it was hard to tell what people read in an actual physical newspaper, but in today's digital age newspapers know exactly what articles people are reading on their website. They will publish content that results in the most hits, whether it's the Blue Jackets, the Crew, the Clippers, or obviously OSU. Everything is all about eyeballs, and the dispatch will write whatever gets the most.
He re-tweeted a guy over in England decided to buy his 50,000th Instagram follower a pint of Guinness. Guy turned out to live in Ipswitch, so he tracked him down and bought him a pint - the guy was wearing a Columbus Crew shirt.
I think just about everyone in this thread has agreed that they have improved. Do you have your own thread where your reading and responding? For years they have done minimum coverage. If anything, they needed to help the Blue Jackets because they needed all the help they could get. They clearly promoted the Blue Jackets and did little for the Crew. As I posted above, the new ownership seems to recognize that they had a lot of Crew people leave them behind. Now the Dispatch needs all the help it can get. Newspapers are a dying business.
I won't support the Dispatch because they tried to bill me for papers they delivered to me after I cancelled my subscription. Then after re-subscribing 6 months later or so with some sort of deal they offered, they counted the prior post-subscription delivered papers in the bill again and then more than doubled my rate before the promotional period ended. Perhaps I should give new ownership a chance, but it's unlikely.
I believe you about 10 TV. Dispatch? Some of my comments about the old days came from an old roomie who worked there back in the day--they didn't cover much except tOSU football then. That's changed. With the Dispatch, I'll have to note that I did not expect much when they were sold. I've been pleasantly surprised in many ways--though still concerned about local reporting. One of my points here is that if one thinks the Dispatch is bad, you should see the other guy. My brother lives in the Atlanta area--and I'm amazed that the AJC sells *anything*. Given the state of newspapers in this country, the Dispatch does a pretty decent job. I'm also remembering, as noted earlier, what the Dispatch was like when I got here. The Citizen-Journal had better coverage. I was used to the Philadelphia Bulletin and the Inquirer--both were good papers in their day, especially in sports. Both won Pulitzer's for their regular reporting Interestingly, the Dispatch started to improve when they hires the Bulletin's old sports director after the Bulletin folded. And yeah, I get your point on "remembering"... Ain't it the truth....
The local Fox/ABC new has been pretty good with the Crew coverage. I even saw a piece about Meram and Kamara looking to leave during the 10pm broadcast the day that came out.
Didn't there used to be a thread about Crew media coverage? Why don't we start another one instead of using the Austin thread?
Because we don't have any news to talk about. It sort of ties in to why the Crew are leaving and kills some time while we wait for something substantial. Besides, the alternative is I get bored and start posting pictures of Andrulis.
How I lasted here for so long is still a small miracle. Is an official boycott of Crew grew (e.g. the new Crew jersey) in effect? I am fond of the black jersey, but I refuse to be Judas on Crewsmas.
One for which we are all thankful..... I mean, how many cute kid pictures would we have missed??? To answer your other question, personally, I'm trying to wear (a) old school gear (pre-reboot) with the Village People and (b) yellow, as FratBoy hates it (or at least his kid does). Though I have been wearing a t-shirt with the new logo for workouts as it is really comfortable. That said, I think I'll try to get one of the Acura shirts at the garage sale, if one is held, as they are pretty cool.
I am boycotting all Crew purchases until the team is staying. It helps I find the new black jersey boring and another example of how Precourt is just phoning it in from Austin. By the way F&@k Precourt. That should be my new greeting when I see a fellow Crew fan.
