Thanks. I just remember Westerville residents complaining about the noise all the time and associated it with Westerville. Also I could have sworn we had a run in with parking security once about drinking in the lot/getting beer because Westerville. Though they may have been lying to us.
There may have been an annexation at some point--and I think part of that facility was in Westerville and part in Columbus. But I could be wrong.
If you follow Gemini Way it becomes IKEA Way and runs by Top Golf, Swensons and IKEA, etc. That road runs right through where Germain Amphitheater used to be.
A little bit of news (kinda, sorta) about a new bridge connecting East Franklinton to the Arena District, courtesy of our buddy at the Dispatch, Bill Bush: https://www.thisweeknews.com/news/20191228/study-focuses-on-need-for-new-olentangy-scioto-bridges Primarily, the article is about addressing the situation along the Olentangy River corridor, from Ohio State to downtown. But it also states that the traffic flow study that was approved back in November includes a potential bridge from EF to the AD, near the new stadium site. None of this is any way surprising. Not only was a Scioto bridge included in the 2010 downtown strategic plan (though, then, it was only a pedestrian bridge, and this study implies something more robust), but the university and city has been collaboratively studying connectivity, green space, etc. along the Olentangy River corridor for a couple of years now. Anyway, I was pleased to see this. Unfortunately, these projects would be 3-5 years in the making. So I doubt there would be any near term improvements in connectivity between East Franklinton and the Arena District that would provide any new transportation options in time for the new stadium opening.
I think as late as 1955,or so,I could get on a passenger train in Middletown and make the trip to Columbus. That would be great now!
When my dad arrived at OSU right after WW2, Columbus still had street cars. And there was the interurban, which ran to Cleveland. It wasn't a train pulling passenger cars but more like a big trolley.
I don’t wish to ignite war, but I tried the Swensons that opened in Hilliard couple months ago. Worst fast food burger Ive ever had (cabin boy). When Im eating fast food, the food has to at least be not bad. That’s a low bar when health is not a criteria.
"One proposal being studied would connect Olentangy River Road from Goodale south across Interstate 670 and the Scioto River to Broad Street in Franklinton. The path of that new connection hasn’t been determined" It not hard to draw a line from ORR @ Goodale through new stadium site and over to Franklinton. Would require a couple of bridges but would make ingress/egrees so much better
Yes but if you look at aerial you can easily see a line albeit a bit curvy one that could run southeast from that intersection likely over 315, over the river and then probably under 670 into the north side of the stadium site, crossing NW Blvd and the spring street, over the scioto/olentangy confluence and connect to franklinton at Gift, Mill or May street. Several RR tracks need crossed. would be costly with all the bridges, seems somewhat doable.
Marginal update about the Mapfre project: https://www.dispatch.com/news/20200...-multi-use-building-amid-mapfre-stadium-talks In short, the Ohio Expositions Commission submitted a request for a new $25M building; the governor wants this to be included in the "holistic" process being followed by the Expo 2050 task force he's already put together. The most meaningful part comes at the end: So not much actual news to report. DeWine still seems to support the Mapfre project. The Expo people want to exact their pound of flesh. Parking remains an open question. It's very nice to hear the Quarter Horse Association say they support the Mapfre project, too. I really hope the Crew and Obetz get that 3 year lease extension signed soon, though.
They're drilling those 80 ft. deep holes in which to drop steel beams and concrete as part of the "secant wall" that was references in the last stadium update (https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/post/2019/12/23/downtown-stadium-updates-site-crews-new-home). The drilling is right in front of the webcam, in case anyone's interested: https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/construction-cam Not exactly riveting stuff, I'll admit, but it's better than nothing.
Eating anything Chris Elliott prepares is a recipe for disaster. Did you end up dancing for hours to Alley Cat afterward?
Lol - it was the galley boy. or maybe I had the Fancy Lad burger. PS - the onion rings were also bad but not as bad the ones i had from BK main street Hilliard. That location needs to close. I had avoided it for years but not BK in general.
Do a search on Reddit for "BK5." Or not. But don't blame me if you do. ps -- It was a recent search there that I found out that apparently a local franchisee of several area Burger Kings is a generally terrible/clueless person and Columbus BKs are worse than other ones. I also learned that "BK5" is undergoing some sort of major remodeling and temporarily closed. It can't get worse.
