Again, depends on how you define "trophy". Most baseball teams, for example, fly pennants for their divisional wins. And try telling Tribe fans that their AL championship "isn't a trophy". Most major US sports have trophies for their divisional championships. And so does MLS--and GGG has one.

 

Since you asked, there are four trophies: the Supporters Shield, MLS Cup, the US Open Cup, and the CONCACAF Champions League.

 

So you are picking and choosing.

FFS, Trillium does not count. Eastern Conference does not count. MLS Cup, Supporter's Shield, USOC, CONCACAF. Perhaps Superliga or its equivalent if they bring it back.

It's easy to come to almost any conclusion if you get to define the criteria.

 

Conference Trophies ranked by order of importance/prestige:

1. MLB
2. NCAAF
3.NHL
4.NFL
5.NBA
6. WNBA or something probably
7. MLS

 

But--still a trophy.

 

Yes, the difference is we've won one of those. The similarities are that no one remembers the year after.

Yes a piece of metal that says eastern conference champions = a trophy.

It's not the pinnacle of achievement for the particular competition it is featured in though so the majority of us don't care about it. I'm happy the team got to stand on a stage with confetti and pyro going off behind them, lifting a trophy honoring their winning of their conference but it doesn't make Gregg an accomplished coach.

 

Like I said earlier, first draw your curve and then plot your data....

No one cares about the Eastern Conference championship unless it comes with a Champions League spot.

I think winning the Eastern Conference is a fairly big deal....would rather win that than Open Cup..when the Crew or any other MLS team has to play on crap surfaces like Nipple Stadium it is a complete joke. Painted concrete should be outlawed as a playing surface.

 

Winning east means nothing if you dont win mls cup. Who here thinks TFC is happy they're east champs this year?

 

But at least they went and played for a real championship. That's the ultimate goal..a star on the Jersey.

 

Yeah, no shit. Do they, or we for that matter, go around parading an east championship? Do portland and seattle parade their west titles?

No one goes into a season hoping to win a conference championship.

 

Other sports count conference championships because they don't have an equivalent Open Cup or Champion's league. It helps teams put something on apparel to sell.

It's not drawing the curve first. No one cares about the ECC except apparently you. Without winning the cup, it means nothing. It counts as much as making the playoffs. Good season, but nothing to show.

The original point is Ggggg is on track to go 0-4 again for trophies. Again. Or to calm your pedantic self, meaningful trophies.

 

Yeah I feel like there's 3 primary levels of accomplishment (and failure) in MLS.

Win MLS Cup

Make the playoffs

Dont make the playoffs

Nobody appreciates winning their conference championship unless it leads to winning a championship championship.

We don't need to talk about the relevance of this trophy anymore because we're not relevant and don't stand a chance at winning it this season anyway.
