Crew preseason plans

From Bob Hunter's "Rumblings" column:

The Crew will travel to Cyprus for part of preseason training because team officials like to train in different places.

The plan is to play four games in eight days, and at least two of those games will be "real" games, in a stadium, at night, with a crowd.

Crew coach Sigi Schmid sees these as "the type of games when the lights are on, we’ll be able to see the hearts of these guys when the national anthem is played." In other words, real games in a foreign country instead of those on a practice field with nobody around but coaches and some guy in the distance walking his dog.

The preseason schedule has the team playing exhibition games in Bradenton, Fla., before heading to Cyprus. After that, the Crew would travel to Carson, Calif., and play a few more games before returning to Columbus around March 1 to finish training. Presumably by then, the weather in central Ohio will be spring-like and beautiful.

As to the teams plans... I never would have thought to go to Cyprus. Man, I bet if Martino is traded, he's going to be royally pissed off that he doesn't get to enjoy the beaches and the ladies out there. Perhaps we can even though in a 3 day stop-over in Ibiza?
