    44 teams involved

19 teams from Ligue 1 (no PSG due to disciplinary reasons)
    20 teams from Ligue 2
5 teams from the National (three relegated teams from Ligue 2 - Niort, Libourne Saint Sourin and Gueugnon, plus Istres and Créteil)

In the first round, scheduled for Tuesday 19 August, there will be six teams involved - the five from Ligue National, plus Nimes from Ligue 2. The three winners will go through to the second round on Wednesday 3 September and Thursday 4 September.

In that round will be 22 clubs - the three winners from round 1 plus the other 19 teams from Ligue 2.

In the following round, the 1/16th final, on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September, will be 28 clubs - the 11 winners from the previous round, plus 17 teams from Ligue 1 (leaving aside Lyon and Bordeaux).

Lyon and Bordeaux come into the competition at the next phase, the 1/8th final, scheduled for Tuesday 11 November and Wednesday 12 November, along with the 14 winners from the previous round.

They should already annul the competition, because nobody will recognize its validity unless if the champion participates.

I dont know if PSG is too unhappy about not participating. They need to worry about staying out of the relegation zone first and foremost and no league cup is one less competition they wouldnt have to worry about getting in the way. 4 different competitions to play in for a team that was almost relegated is too much.

I don't think PSG will have to worry about relegation this season, though it's definitely true that another competition for them would not help.

The only reason I care about the Coupe de la Ligue is to see how the National clubs do.

    Allez Montpellier :).

Fantastic game, very unlucky for Lille though.

Can't wait to see who they play next. I know for most people the League cups aren't interesting, but since I'm in Montpellier this semester, I've been going to all the Montpellier home games. Can't beat 6 euro seats :).

bah, now we'll have to play against the Lensois.
We should let them win, I'm getting tired of their whining, and I'm getting tired of this cup.

although, looking at the teams left, there's a real coup to be made

Did anybody watch the Bordeaux - ASSE game? Seriously Bordeaux can not attack very well. Against a pretty weakend side as well. If Laurent Blanc became coach of les Bleus, they would never score.

Blanc has horrible offensive tactics. If I was a Bordeaux fan I wouldnt be upset if he left.

Anyone know where I can see the highlights of the Schirrheinn game? For a team from the Division d'Excellence of La Ligue d'Alsace to make it to the seizièmes is incredible.

Also, maybe we could change the thread's title to include this year's Coupe de France?

    Alsatian natural superiority, as usual...

(and frozen pitch, that helped to egalize things a little bit).

BTW, that was the coupe de France, not the Coupe de la ligue.

    Title changed.

Also, assuming both Lyon and Marseille win their respective matches against Concarneau and Besancon, we could see another clash between the two clubs in the round of 16. Which would be exciting, but I would rather see a match up like that further along in the competition.

That's insane. If i was director of Clermont foot, i would have sacked everybody after that match. And I mean everyone, and than resigned myself. Just let the club start fresh. How does a midtable ligue 2 side let a 7th division amateur club score 4 goals in the final 26 minutes of a match!? Great story, but suffice to say, the carriage turns back into a pumpkin when they go down south.

If I'm not mistaken, this Schirrein-Toulouse will be the most uneven game in the whole history of French soccer (since no departmental level team ever got that far, and of course, never met a Ligue 1).

my son plays basketball at exactly that level (albeit in U-15)... not only is it 100% amateur there are a couple of 100% amateur levels ABOVE that! below it there's only departemental "honneur" and "promotion" which are basically beer leagues.

That was an easy 8-0 for Toulouse. Things are back in order.

Obviously, everyone lost interest since the end of January !

    Sauf moi ! :D

Crossing everything that can be crossed in the wake of tomorrow's finale de la Coupe de Bretagne.

Being there is nice but being defeated by Guingamp would just be a nightmare for generations !!!
