^ Yeah pretty bad decision there by the linesman.

You can actually see the shadow of the ball on the field surface. I know the shadow isn't totally accurate, but it gives a rough idea of where the ball was.... and it wasn't even close to being past the line.

Agree with the first part of your statement. The second part: it's possible, but we'll see tonight.

Having said that, if your prediction proves correct, a Libertadores title triumph will be bittersweet to NOB fans.

On one hand, they'll finally be continental champions, stick it to Rosario Central (NOB has never won a CONMEBOL cup; Rosario Central has), and crown a great season: Torneio Final and Libertadores champions, with a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup, where Newell's will have a possible and quite probable matchup against Bayern Munchen.

On the other, it appears all but guaranteed that Gerardo Martino will leave Newell's, regardless of his team's ultimate results in this Libertadores. Santos wants him (after failing to attract Marcelo Bielsa) as part of a rebuilding project. Santos isn't even the most financially powerful club in Brazil, but it did reap windfalls with the 2011 Libertadores and with Neymar's transfer to Barcelona. The pay Santos will offer Martino will probably be too good to refuse - all respect to Newell's, but given the modest financial state of many first-division Argentine clubs, I speculate Martino will not get a matching offer and thus decide to leave.

Whatever happens, Newell's fans have already celebrated have the national title (and a guaranteed spot in the 2014 Libertadores). They should cherish it, because 2013 Libertadores champions or not, this will be a season they won't easily forget and which will be very hard to repeat, let alone surpass.

Yo no te he faltado el respeto a ti.

I don't agree with this statement, wining a Libertadores is never bittersweet.

For NOB fans it will be. They'll be losing a very good manager who will have been largely responsible for the biggest feat in the history of their club. I would not want a Libertadores-winning manager to leave my team right after my team won the Copa.

Martino is a great coach we miss him dearly in Paraguay, but winning the libertadores is above any coach or player, I see your point but at that moment nothing else matters.

Hello chief, hope you're enjoyting the Copa Lib semifinals.

I don't think bittersweet is an entirely wrong description. The reality is that once Newell's finish with the Copa Lib, regardless of how they finish, the club WILL lose Martino, Scocco, and highly likely Heinze, Casco, Tonso, Vergini, Urruti and maybe Maxi. That is the near distant future, no Nuels fan can deny this.

So ... we don't want the ride to end. It's like a college basketball team that will lose all their seniors and highly coveted juniors after the NCAA tournament is finished for that team.

Enjoy the ride. Savor the Flavor.

    That's what we're doing.

I think you commented on this earlier CB, but - on the presumption that Newell's advance tonight -I don't like the prospect of facing Olimpia. They smack of a "team of destiny," similar to Newell's really.

But, that's off the radar for now.

    NEWELL'S C@ARAJO!!

NO estoy insultando.
Y no he insultado a nadie al decir.

Where would Heinze go? Given his age and where he started his career I don't think he has any better option than to stay at NOB. Or is he retiring?
Similar question for Maxi. I assumed at this point both players will retire in a NOB shirt.

    Heinze indicating he will retire.

Maxi does not appear willing (nor should he be) to adjust his wages any longer to remain at Newell's. It is not contentious in any way.

    We'll see on both.

Referees make bad calls all the time and it's usually against us so god forbid we have some calls our way for once and again Santa Fe should have never had a goal to begin with.

He sounds like a Cerrista amargo but then again like Cerro..when your team hasen't accomplished anything ever, what else do you have to talk about?

Point is we made the final with no money, average players, and without our 2 best players Ortiz (transfered to Toluca) and Salgueiro (suspended)

I can also see us losing our coach (Almeida) to the National Team...the APF must be anxiously waiting for the Libertadores to end so they can pounce on him.

I wouldn't want Newell's playing Bayern without Tata. It could end badly. Like Santos vs. Barça.

Not only is it just his coaching, Tata Martino was voted the greatest player in the clubs history by the socios and fans. He played over 500 games for the club. It would be like in your case, if Rogerio Ceni became the DT of Sao Paulo and then left. Tata Martino IS Newell's

    First half observations:

    1. Atlético Mineiro did part of its job: scored very early. The first half was virtually all Atlético Mineiro. If this continues, Atlético Mineiro will reach a second goal.
    2. Heinze out. I am not familiar with Newell's reserve full-backs, but there's no way there is anybody whose experience matches his.
    3. Guzman with key saves. Is this guy part of the Argentine NT?
    4. The last play I'd say was a penalty foul on Jô - but Bernard better watch it because in Libertadores play, it takes little to get a second yellow card.
