It seems next years Libertadores will miss usual contenders like Boca Juniors and Santos.

So, what are your thoughts? Which south american teams look strong enough right now to win it? Who do you think will qualify and who wont?

Maybe someone could put the teams that are already classified.

In Venezuela, right now the strongest team is UAMaracaibo.
They've been dominating the league big time.
A few months ago, the went about 32 wins undefeated (record in the league).

    - UAMaracaibo:
    http://www.uamaracaibo.org/
Best team in Venezuela at the moment. Undisputed 2004-2005 Champions, on their way to be Apertura 2005 champion.
    - CaracasFC:
    http://www.caracasfutbolclub.com/
Very young team, started the season really bad, but in the last 4 games won 3 and tied 1. Venezuela's champion in the last 2 years.
    - Dep. Tachira:
    http://www.deportivotachira.com/
Located in the "hotbed" of Venezuelan soccer, have participated in Copa Libertadores about 10-12 times. Revelation team in Libertadores 2004, worst team in Libertadores 2005.

A mexican team has a decent chance of making the semi-finals or finals.

From Chile, so far the teams qualified:

Union Espanola - Apertura 2005 champions, teams with lots of experienced players like Diablo Nunez, Valenzuela and Coto Sierra. In the second half of the year, their level dropped dramatically and didn't even make it to the playoffs. Their future in the Libertadores is uncertain... I think the team still has potential to do good at an international level.

Universidad Catolica - Until now, they have assured the 3rd spot for the Libertadores but the way they are playing now, more than likely they'll get that 2nd spot as Clausura Champs. This teams seems fired up and could be a serious candidate to do something important in the cup.

Other teams that look strong to win the Clausura are Colo-Colo, Huachipato and Cobresal. In fact, if Catolica become champs then Colo-Colo will grab that third spot.

    I love mexicans "extreme overconfidence"
He doesn't know what teams from Mexico are playing
He doesn't know what teams they are going to play.

but he knows that they have a chance of making it to the semifinals or finals.

Everybody was saying that America was clearly the best team in Mexico because they were undefeated for about 32 games.
Well, they didn't have a chance in Copa Sudamericana.

is this confirmed? are they going to play the "pre-libertadores" with the rest of the S.A. teams (the 3rd teams that don't classify directly) or they going straight into the tournament?

    that is about right!

some 3rd place teams in conmebol tournaments will play each other to advance.

    colombia has 2.5

nacional is already in, but in the process of rebuilding the places left empty by forwards and chicho serna's non renewal of contract.

santafe de Bogota will play a venezuelan team for the right to make the grp stage.

I see much coming out colombia's participation in 2006

last year america de cali went to grp stage via venezuelan team.

in 2006 is not different, colombian team (non champ) with the most points in 2 seasons will face 'repechaje' for the right to go to copa libertadolares, It was mentioned several times during santa fe vs Dim game las sunday.

for mexico it just explains two. the apertura and clausura 04 winners which are pumas and the interliga winner. i think the third team still has to qualify by beating a south american team, not sure though

or peruvian or chilean, they sort of set the 'repechaje' by distances (cost efective and time wise)
