IIRC correctly Roy was lamenting not having someone man mark Pirlo after the Euro match, and stated clearly that their intention was to do so this time. I might be way out in left field, but I don't think they really accomplished their goal.

The bit in bold is the bit I included in my original post in case it hasn't already been permanently etched into your memory.
'Uaglio broadly speaking makes two points in his point. One negative (he didn't pass enough creatively and didn't attack space) and one positive (he was a good decoy for Pirlo). I just included the amount (more 50% than 20%) that supported my argument because apart from from Falc and maybe some subtle Nek comments the consensus here is that he played as well as was expected/required. This is despite the fact that the noise on this forum pre-tournament was deafening for him to be included in not just the squad but in the first XI. Why were people making such a fuss about him being included in the team if his job is to just pass the ball sideways 50 times and come off after 60 minutes.

You say you agree with Uaglio's post so you are saying you were disappointed in him? So did he do his job or didn't he?

Pirlo was under a lot more man marking pressure in this match than in the Euro encounter. Lazy Rooney was repsonsible for him then, whereas a more disciplined Sterling was this time around.
The dummy ironically worked so well for the precise reason that he was being so closely marked.
You can't man mark someone at a set piece.
