Yeah and supposedly Borriello , 35 years not withstanding , may be out for Cagliari in favor of 29 year old Dutchman Gregory van der Wiel.

If this isn’t any indication of low number of Italians starting in Serie A, I don’t know what is.

Today’s starting Roma squad at Chievo....

Fwiw, we started five Italians (Sportiello, Astori, Biraghi, Benassi and Chiesa) a half-Italian (Laurini) and two Argentinians of Italian descent (Pezzella and Simeone).

Any of the Argies eligible for the national team?

haha well Pezzella has a match for Argentine NT. Simeone has some for Argentina U23, not sure if that counts as senior squad, or not.

Nope. Unless for the senior squad, he could play for any team. He has dual citizenship, right? Spanish/Argie? Has he got the same grit as the Dad?

You know, when I see three different 0-0 games, I wonder what's the point? This reminds me of the Serie A in the 70's and early 80's when foreigners were pretty much banned. What is the point to start 10 foreigners if they can't score a goal? Isn't the whole point of signing a foreign player to be that much better than an Italian and if that is the case, how much better can they really be if they can't even score ONE LOUSY GOAL? May as well start Italian players!

Super fast and talented. Doesn't seem physically strong enough to be great in this league yet, though.

He's about the same size as Dad. Being very skilled means he never had any reason to learn how to break legs, like Pops. His mom's last name is Baldini. That's Italian. I looked her up (for the pics too) but she was born in Buenos Aires. Unless you guys change his mind and help him "feel Italian" I doubt that he'll play for Italy. Falvo will be relieved :)

You know, possibly the only one thing good that Tavecchio did was in March 2016 when he passed a law that stated each team needs 4 primavera players on their roster. They're not forced to use them, but it's pretty much the same thing the Germans did in 2000. Now to enforce it. So long as they're there, they'll be seen and might get more time. More changes need to come, but that's a pretty good one so far.

The surname Simeone is Italian, too, I gotta think.

One of our Italian women's team members is putting it on him apparently. That could help or it could scare him off.

Very True. Who would you put money on making it? Chiesa or Simeone?

Simeone Jr grew up in Italy for the most part. Does he want to play for Italy or Argentina?

Argentina, I suspect. I've never heard otherwise.

Unless he switches positions, between Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero , Paulo Dybala , Darío Benedetto and Gonzalo Higuaín, I doubt there will be much room for Simeone Jr. It’s rare that they will take 6 forwards to a tournament. He could play in the next Copa América in 2019....

I thought Messi retired from their NT.

In any case, he's nowhere near those guys at this point, though I suppose he could do well against patchwork defenses of national sides.

Messi unretired during the qualifying phase. He also scored 3 goals against Ecuador to help Argentina qualify for the World Cup tournament in Russia.

11 Italians couldn't score a goal in 180 mins against a serie B (Sweden) team. Time to start emulating the Spanish more. They actually win stuff these days.

Doesn't La Liga have more domestic players than Serie A?

Probably the same I'd guess. I'm thinking more about emulating their style of play/way they officiate etc. That's the "product" FIFA wants to see. i.e. technical aesthetic football.

I can tell you almost unequivably that Italy will never play a “Ricky Ticky Tavi” style of soccer!

    Not now not ever!

    You can count on it!
