Good news for CONCACAF...the Gold Cup and the CONCACAF Champions League will be on the soon-to-be launched cable channel FOX Sports 1 which will be available in 90 million homes starting Saturday, Aug. 17.

FOX made a smart move by launching a national sports network to compete against ESPN which is 98 million homes since they have enough popular programming to get viewers. With soccer in particular this is what FOX Sports 1 plans to air:

If News Corps. cross promotes FOX Sports 1 on FOX, FX, FNC, etc then I have a feeling FOX Sports 1 will be pretty successful on it's on. Luckily for us soccer will play a huge part at FOX Sports 1. I bring this up in the CONCACAF section because I think the Gold Cup specifically can get them really good ratings if they promote it in prime-time on FOX (more specifically the US team since it's a US network lol). It will be interesting to see how much attention they give the CCL since I'm guessing it doesn't typically draw strong ratings on FOX Soccer.

FS1 launches on August 17; Gold Cup runs July 7 to 28. It would probably still be on FoxSoc this cycle (unless Fox decides to shuffle some of its programming before the official launch date).

Isn't Fox Sports 1 just Fox sports channel with a different name?

Well I have Cox and only have the "Essential TV" package which is pretty much channels 2-64 and SPEED is in that "extended" line-up which you need a box for. It's channel 106. Hopefully Cox moves it into the basic package and have it next to the other sports channels like ESPN/FSN/CSN. If FOX wins the rights to the Big East/Conference USA I think Cox should move it since Tulane plays in that conference.

DirecTV is much better than Cox, imo. I had it when I lived in San Diego.
