Although this meeting is primarily for residents of the area, it may be an opportunity for fans to learn more about the stadium and its design. http://www.sanjoseca.gov/planning/hearings/CNM/2011/PD11-002_Community_Mtg.pdf
"They'll never build it!" whiners... They can't build it without a few of these. They were promised at the City Council meeting when the NIMBYs were there along with us... This is a good sign.
Hmmm...on the latest Quakecast podcast, Kelly Gray mentioned that he has seen the new renderings and he really liked them. He was not a big fan of the original renderings (not enough "bells and whistles") but he was very impressed with the new ones. When he was asked if he knew when the Quakes would be releasing new renderings, he said he wasn't sure but he did say: Maybe what he saw was what is being prepared for this meeting. Fingers crossed.... Also, he said they hope to have the groundbreaking in January 2012 instead of March.
glad to see the progress. maybe the amount to build could increase as well? very excited to see this happening, and i wish i could go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regarding the "bells and whistles" comment, Kelly Gray actually said (bolded part by me), with "they're" referring to the owners: GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Mercury News picks up on the meeting. http://www.mercurynews.com/san-jose-neighborhoods/ci_18958029 I really like their optimism. They have come a long way since Barry Twitt. I wonder if it will include new renderings?
Oh yeah!!! Now, I need for some of you to go to this meating and report back! Naturally, I can't make it, but I really want to know what goes down. GOOOOOO QUAAAAAAAAKES!!!!!!! Fire Frank and JD!! - Mark
why is this not on the team site? i hope this is good news. i don't think i can make it though, i'm double booked. :-(. but here is what i hope to see when we eventually see it: -roof -sje on the blue seats -18-22 k -store/pub built in - a few row of seats on the grass knoll
The purpose of the meeting was to address the concerns of the Newhallna neighborhood. I thought the did a pretty good job of that. There wasn't much discussion about the stadium specs that would interest us here. They brought 5 renderings- Three we've already seen and two were new, but consistent with the old renderings. They were holding back. They didn't need to show new details to discuss noise issue with the Newhallna group.
How many people were there? Who represented the Quakes? Did anyone ask them when construction was going to start?

From the article linked in the previous post: I'm not sure what that means. Since we can start counting down in "weeks rather than months," does that mean less than 2 months? According to Kelly Gray on the latest Quakescast, the Quakes are looking at a groundbreaking in January 2012.

Noise pollution? This is ridiculous. Seriously, how are the A's ever going to build a 35,000 seat stadium downtown with 81 dates if there is so much concern about noise generated from 20+ two hour games mid-evening on a Saturday night? Is 7:30pm the designated balcony time for the crazy cat ladies of the Newhall neighborhood?
If these people were concerned about noise, why in the hell did they buy houses across the street from the airport?! And next to the train tracks?! This is ridiculous. BUT, I'm totally pumped to see the progress. To know that we are down to nits and gnats. Shovels!! I want to see Shovels in the ground!!! That weeks not months stuff pees me off. Soon, sooner rather than later. Perhaps as early as January. That's fine. "Weeks not months" means six or seven weeks, not more. I don't think we're that close. GOOOOO QUAAAAAAKES!!!!!! Fire Frank!! - Mark
The noise pollution argument was incredibly laughable. You live next to an international airport and active railway, and you're worried about drumming and horns from the quakes game? The sounds from trains and planes are "white noise"? 1) Horns are banned at Quakes games. 2) The drums are only slightly audible at the opposite end of the stadium. 3) Plane and train noise = white noise? I must have missed the "Living Next To An Airport" CD in the relaxation section of a music store. What a bunch of NIMBY bullsh*t.
NIMBYs are people who become environmentalists all out of a sudden when they have their own agenda. That's why we in California can never build anything.
