Last time I was at the Marietta Brewing Co I sampled their Pawpaw Ale. I don't think it's always available but it wasn't bad. I appreciated their effort to use a local fruit that most people have never ever heard about in their lives.
My great-grandfather's family had a bakery in OTR. My grandfather used to tell stories of Old German Cincinnati, like how as a kid he would be sent down to the brewery with a couple of beer steins and he would have to bring them home filled without spilling any.
In college at UC we would listen to the nightly gunfire coming from OTR from my porch on Wheeler St. I hear it's changed a bit.
I had a bakery, donut shop in Middletown for 54 years and was president of the Cincinnati bakers association in the 1980s. I remember a bakery equipment company offering to give a new bread slicer to the baker who had the oldest slicer in use. One of the bakers said he had the oldest but it was buried under the rubble when they tore down the bakery to build 1-75.
Mrs KG has told me about that fruit--she used to get it when she was a kid and her family was camping down in SE Ohio. I've always wanted to try it.
When I was in college I used to go and spend the weekend sometimes with my friend LT's family in East Cleveland. I hear it's changed a bit too.
Crosley field was at the corner of Fendley and Western st. The stadium was a half mile from Union Station. Going south on I-75, Over the Rhine is to the left and Crosley Field was to the right. The first time I went to Crosley, I-75 was under construction, so I and others parked under an overpass that was being built. A young boy said he would watch my car for two dollars. I knew what would happen if I didn't pay him! Walking down the steps into the field level seats with the lights shining on the grass field was one of the greatest sights and feelings I ever had!
Life's pretty good...thanks for asking. Got a lot of things sorted out, including not being a referee any longer (over 1,200 matches in 15 years was enough). I read these boards every day but don't have anything to contribute so that's why you've not heard from me.
The biggest thing I'm looking for in this game: The Crew under Berhalter struggled against the press. The Revs press very high, and very often. At home, I expect lots of pressing, wanna see how Porter deals with this.
well, last weekend was supposed to be watch blue jackets win watch crew win date with lady friend it was watch blue jackets lose watch crew tie get stood up by lady friend this weekend is hopefully: watch blue jackets win watch crew win watch captain marvel date with lady friend updates will be coming
I know no one will take me seriously with this but I got to say it to have a clean conscious. As a married man for 10 years now, being single is underrated.
We talked with about 5 places and they were the only one to guarantee every game on. They are giving us a designated area, working on getting Breweries in that are tied to the Crew and giving discounts to members. If you'd like to help out next season on finding a local bar feel free to join the group and give input.
Who did you talk to? Regardless of the location, it's awesome that GCM got something together. Mad props to you guys. And I don't mean to diminish your work, if that's how it came across. Brixx isn't that bad. To be fair, it has been a few years since I've stopped in. Unfortunately, we have a funeral tomorrow so I'm not sure I'll make it out for the match. Beers on me when I can come out, though.
Now @FootyRef, you seem devote so let me tell you about a spiritual journey. Have you ever read The Old Testament https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/crew-to-austin-in-2019-maybe.2075321/ And the New Testament https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/saved-the-crew.2087944/ ?
There were about 4 of us that talked with people, we had a survey put together and essentially 80% wanted to be downtown so that limited our scope a bit. We talked with Flyboys in Oakwood, but they are closed Sundays. DBC is already working with FC Cincinnati. Yellow Cab has bands on weekend nights. A few people refused to go to Troll Pub outright. And Milano's in Dayton has college night parties that conflicted with games. I agree Brixx isn't ideal, but it seemed to check a lot of boxes and they were very enthusiastic to help build the group. You should definitely stop by when you get a chance, we are only doing away games this year because almost every member is a full season ticket holder (We had 27 respond to the survey, we had between 15-30 show up for matches at the end of last season.) One of our members designed a pretty nice scarf for Dayton and will have a presence at the tailgates this season for Home games.
Across the street from my house which is why I’ll go there vs watching at home. Hopefully that doesn’t make you less likely to still go! I agree, hope we get a good turnout. I have a few friends coming.
