Chuck Blazer, a NYC native, and the general secretary of Concacaf and the guy who blew the whistle on Jack Warner's corruption, is resigning from Concacaf on Dec 31, 2011. He will retain his membership on the Fifa Board until 2013.

He said he is looking for other opportunities in international soccer. Whatever that means.

I would imagine that he would be a prestigious member for any ownership group trying to get the NY2 team. Certainly a lot better than PK.

It depends on why he resigned. Warner was apparently going down kicking and screaming and was using his access to CONCACAF's bank accounts to show that Blazer was a corrupt SOB. If he resigned because it was a resign or get dragged through the dirt, I'm not sure he'd be a coup.

If it was a resign because he actually wants to do something else, then perhaps he's thinking of a higher position? Septic Bladder is supposedly serving his last term as FIFA President and resigning his ExCo position at the end of 2013 would give him 2 years to drum up support. Clearly an uphill battle, but he'll be coming in with a public reputation of being a "reformer" after throwing Warner and Binny under the bus.

I think this is very far fetch... I don't think this guy is connected to the MLS expansion circuit.

I think you meant a "weighty" member of any ownership group instead of "prestigious".

And please, spare us the heroics that you are attributing to Chuck Blazer, he's had an important position in an unbelievably corrupt organization for many years now. The whistleblowers are only blowing now because the corrupt decisions happened to go against them this time.

And if you spend just 15 minutes googling Chuck Blazer, it's hard to conclude anything other than him being a simple clown at best.

You are underestimating what Chuck Blazer could offer us. He would make a fantastic mascot

Blazer was, for many years, in direct fellowship with jack warner; any connection with an MLS team would raise shivers up and down don garber's spine
blazer has too many weighty problems- personally and professionally-- for a group in MLS to want to embrace him

Only a tool Red Bull fan would post such nonsense. Keep worrying about the real NY team coming back and worry about making the playoffs before you start posting CRAP!

    Facts are facts.

This has nothing to do with a Cosmos RB bitchfest that you just turned it into. Who is the one posting crap?

To be fair - Red Card is one of the better of the Red Bull posters we have seen on these boards - he might take a dig here and there but he always is in convos and staying on topic.

I'm not into rivalry bravado. So it is amazing to me how someone could misinterpret my posts as such. Just amazing.

Let me just say, that like many other supporters of existing MLS teams, I would like to see expansion of MLS to NYC proper provided it is done the right way. In other words, an SSS in Queens. After that, let the rivalry begin! :)

Let me ask you this, and I say it in all sincerity because I genuinely want an answer. Why do you think that an SSS is the right way of doing things vs lets say using Citi Field as a temp venue?

I can't answer for Red Card BUT I share the same line of thinking, I think Citi Field would be fine as a temporary venue but only IF the SSS plan is solid, has been signed off on, the financing is in place and there is nothing that can prevent ground being broken. What I don't want to see is the SSS plan fall apart after the team has moved into Citifield and us create another DCU ... and frankly if I had the choice between waiting a year and letting the cosmos never play in a temp venue and having them start in Citi I'd probably wait.

Ok great but you haven't really answered the question.

What's the big deal about a SSS? How does that increase

the competitiveness of a team and how does it make the

experience any better? If you consider that CitiField is all

of 3 years old and one of the best ball parks in the Northeast?

I love ya cosmos, but I do agree with northbank on this. A stadium actually designed for soccer enhances the atmosphere and enjoyment of the fans. I think sharing Citifield on a more permanent or prolonged basis sends a message that soccer is second rate. Just ask the Jets how hard it's been for their image playing in "Giants" Stadium. And that's football!

Personally, I find it visually unwelcome to have infield dirt, or american football lines, on a soccer field.

Shit, even if we played, say two seasons at Citifield, I'd be ok with it as long as their was ASSURANCE that the stadium was being or about to be constructed.

See this is what I was going after, the reasoning for "why" an SSS. I know all about the revenue and what not but being that Citi is controlled by someone who would be within the ownership group then it's basically an RSS, ala Kraft in Boston.

This is what I'm getting so far:

    1. Image of second rate
    2. Sitelines and visually unpleasing field conditions (dirt and baselines etc etc)

Again I'm not against a SSS. It's obviously the because case scenario. I'm just trying to construct reasons for using Citi now, instead of waiting for approval of a stadium within Willets Point.

When we first started this group, I always said that at the very least the lowest common denominator would be friendship and family!

    Awwww I'm touched!

To put this in the right thread:

"Outgoing CONCACAF general secretary Chuck Blazer is mounting a bid to secure an MLS expansion franchise for New York City, according to Soccer America.

Blazer announced this month that he’ll leave the continental governing body in December after a productive but controversial 21-year reign. He is looking to challenge the well-publicized bid by the New York Cosmos group that appears to be losing steam.

Blazer will be joined by former Cosmos goalkeeper Shep Messing and retired New York Jets running back Curtis Martin, according to the magazine"

Agreed - I wonder if Messing was leading the charge behind the scenes - because remember, Curtis Martin was rumored to have been in the COSMOS office at one time - no?

    So ********ing confusing lol

lol - a stadium entrance with his nude photos - right? lol
