What happened to Wu Lei going to FC Copenhagen and Zhang Xizhe going to Celtic? Any chance Zhang Linpeng moves to Europe in this summer transfer window?

There are rumors in the Chinese media that an unnamed Eredivisie side and VFL Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga are interested in signing Zhang Xizhe. Zhang has said in a recent interview that he has been in contact with Wolfsburg for about a year and with several unnamed La Liga sides.

Sun Xiang is linked with a move to Shanghai East Asia. East Asia has expressed interest in signing him on a free transfer as Sun's contract with Guangzhou Evergrande ends at the end of the year.

Don't you guys think Wolfsburg is way too deep of a team for Zhang Xizhe to excel with? I mean I would rather see him playing a starter role with Hamburg rather than making cameo appearances every other game for Wolfsburg. He would definitely be a border line sub on a team like Wolfsburg. He would be in the same situation as Hao Junmin. Wasting a year of his development on the bench...

It'll be tough for him as Kevin de Bruyne currently occupies the attacking midfield role and there are several others on the team who can play in that position as well. If Zhang does sign for Wolfsburg, his best chance of playing would probably be at left midfield, his secondary position.

I just think that Wolfsburg is probably too deep of a team for Zhang Xizhe to try to break into right away. One bad game and he will find himself on the bench for the next few matches. Going to a team in the Eredevisie (sorry if I spelled it wrong) or Swiss Super League will allow him a greater opportunity to succeed. My concern is looking at Kakitani who dominated in the East Asian Cup while playing against Zhang Xizhe and yet he is struggling to find playing time at Basel. This is a rare opportunity for a Chinese player to transfer to Europe and I just hope Zhang isn't too flattered by Wolfsburg and is focused on progressing in his career.

Btw any word on teams interested in Wu Lei or Zhang Linpeng? You would think those two guys would be the most sought after Chinese nationals.

No word on any moves to foreign teams for both Wu or Zhang as of yet. Hopefully as the offseason continues, something will come up.

I agree with this. I think he needs to improve more before being a consistent player on a team like Wolfsburg. Exposure to top class training helps, but spending a year on the bench at the age of 23 in a foreign country must be detrimental to development and confidence. BuLi has a good history of grooming Asian players though, so at least we have that.

Jiangsu Sainty has claimed that it turned down a RMB 60 million bid (!!!) for Wu Xi. Rumors say that it was either one of the three clubs: Guangzhou Evergrande, Beijing Guoan, or Guangzhou R&F.

Also, Rong Hao of Evergrande is linked with a move to Shanghai Greenland for a rumored RMB 30 million.

About 7~8 million €, this is one of the major reasons why Chinese players don't get transferred to Europe. There's just no way our players are worth that much, especially when there's such a risk moving abroad. Just as a comparison, Kagawa went to Dortmund for about 350K €. For European clubs, it's always a risk to sign an asian player no matter how well he does in his domestic league, so you can be damn sure they'll rather sign a player for 350K € than 8 million €.

Exactly why I don't think we will see any Chinese players transfer to Europe again this winter. Zhang Linpeng is worth around 1 Million Euros max but Evergrande will probably ask for like 10
