Ricardo Rodriguez was 19, played in the Swiss league (third tier league at best) and was barely a promising player when Borghi was the national team coach and the Swiss expressed his desire to represent Chile. In any case, Rodríguez was a world beater, so it's not Borghi's fault that Rodríguez is not here right now. Yes, Bichi failed as national team coach, but all of you are blaming him for something that any coach would have done back then (not to call up a 19 years old player from a weak European league).

 

He made his Zürich debut as a 17 year old and Zürich was the second best swiss team at that time. For me this has to be more than enough to make all efforts to attract this player playing for your NT

 

Actually he was playing at the Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga (sure, third tier league, ), when Borghi asumed as coach of our NT, and yes he had 19, but at the time he had already won the under-17 WC championship, and also was one of Europe's most promising players that even lots of the most prestigious teams in the continent, such as Barcelona (under Pep Guardiola at the time), Paris St.Germain, Shaktar Donetsk, Sevilla and Villareal were after his pass, when he still was a player of FC Zurich (Wolfsburg beat them all, as it paid more than 8 million Euro's for him).
The least that Borghi could have done, should have been to at least give the kid a phone call in one of the many trips he took to Europe those days. Instead he was more worried in eating at the best dinning places there and making press conferences.

As @freeestyler quoted, at least Sampaoli had the guts to call Ricardo's brother (Francisco), whom has never even played for the Swiss under aged team. At least, with the call he gives the kid hope to dress in our NT, and therefore make him think it over before he actually plays for another team. In the case of Borghi, he closed the door to Ricardo, even before he tried to knock at it. No wonder, that Ricardo finally decided to play for Switzerland in an official game in October that same year, in an Euro qualifier game, and we lost him for good.

 

Rodríguez arrived in Worlsfburg 4 months before Borghi left the Chilean national team and had barely played 2 months of Bundesliga level. So, Borghi didn't really have a chance to call him up for our national team as Rodriguez played his first for match for Switzerland one year before while playing in the Swiss league, a third tier league.

I repeat, it's not Borghi's fault that Rodriguez is not here now. You just don't call a 18 years old player from the weak Swiss league for your national team. If Rodriguez wished to play for Chile so badly, he would have waited for a while, insted he took the first chance to represent Albania, I mean Switzerland.

It seems to me that he vendió humo, plain and simple.

 

Of course, nevertheless, I sustain he refuse a future call up if he is not a starter.

As for Rodriguez, the mistake is part Bielsas as its the responsability of getting the player with potential, before he actually performs on a national team level.

 

Was and still am totally ok. Vigoroux at most said he needs to time to think things over, if he gets called up I have no doubt he will come.

 

Maybe so.
But on his behalf, many of our actual players, saw their first ever appearance in our NT, under his tutelage. Some of which were very young when they first played for our team. If he would have stayed a bit longer he might as well would have called him (Bielsa always prefers to deal with younger players than with the older ones), but as he quit, we will never really know.

 

As awful and shameful it is to recognize an error, I must give it to you that I got mixed up in the dates refered to his transfer to Wolfsburgh in almost one complete year , as he was really transfered to it during January 2012, which really was almost 11 months before Borghi was sacked from our NT, which happened in November, the same year.

As you base your opinions over how you deem the Swiss league, I got to give it to you that maybe it wasn't his fault that he is not here in our NT, but since I strongly believe that Swiss league is lots better than what you think they are (even better than ours in many aspects), as @ freeestyler quoted it, being a regular starter in an important club such as the Zurich FC (a regular club in european tournaments and one of the best teams of the swiss league since over a century), with his tender age is like more than enough to consider him for playing in our NT, at least during the whole of 2011, specially considering that he had been playing there for over 2 years as a starter in his team, in one of the positions where we have always had problems in finding the correct man (Borghi even improvised with Vidal playing there with awful results), an issue that even nowdays, under Sampaoli, still hasn't been solved. Borghi could've perfectly call him at many times during 2011, before he actually played for Switzerland in October that year.

 

What are the last signs about an eventual call for El Mago? I have not read anything new in the last 2 weeks. Actually when will be the nomina published

Ok la nomina... Como que cada vez hay menos jugadores que estan en un buen momento y son imponentes.

 

Bien por la vuelta de Valdivia, lo necesitamos y como no se fue donde los camellos es aún útil.

Esperaba ver a Matías, a Mauro Zárate y Enzo Roco y de una vez por todas fuera de los listados a Millar y Gato Silva. Es hora de depurar la selección y que todo integrante tenga calidad, creo que es posible.
Fácilmente me imagino una nómina de mediocampistas con Carmona, Díaz, Vidal, Gutiérrez, Aránguiz, Matías Fernández, Valdivia o Pablo Hernández (quien me ha sorprendido gratamente en España), es decir, futbolistas de kilates. Pero como digo, deben desparecer los dos personajes aquellos.

Y en la delantera lo mismo... Alexis, Vargas, Zárate, Orellana, Pinilla y Ulloa, con los pendex al aguaite. De nuevo, cada uno de ellos es un muy buen futbolista.

Me sorprendió gratamente el llamado de Lichnovsky, que sí está jugando muy bien en la segunda española. Sin embargo me hubiese gustado verlo con Roco.
No me gustó el llamado de los siguientes jugadores;
Millar, ya fue su tiempo, aunque esta vez lo entiendo por no estár bien el Pipe.
Silva, en el mediocampo es infinitamente inferior al resto (incluso dentro de Chile) y de defensa están Lich y Roco.
Pinilla, ojalá vuelva a la U, pero creo que ya pasó su momento en la roja y me hubiese gustado ver a Angelo.

Valdivia está jugando bien en Brasil e incluso disputa mejor jugador junto con Kaká y otro. Creo que Matias una vez que retome juego será llamado en remplazo de Pablo Hernandez o el mismo Millar.

Finalmente, ojalá Ulloa no lo llamen. Zarate se lesionó, por eso no llama entonces se asume que compite directamente con Orellana.

 

Si bien admito que Leo Ulloa no es alguien que sea de mis futbolistas preferidos para ver jugar (far from it actually), no deja de ser un delantero que compraron a principios de temporada en 10 millones de euros, con un potencial de estar en la región de los 10-15 goles en la Premier. O sea, algo debe tener, no es para descartarlo así tan tajantemente.

Yo pienso que afortunadamente los 3 "refuerzos" argentinos poseen buenas cualidades. En ningún caso se trata de paquetes, pero sucede que acá somos tan especiales que de la noche a la mañana te cae un delantero de nivel Premier League (Ulloa), otro ex campeón Mundial Juvenil, Campeón y mejor jugador de una de las ligas top a nivel mundial como la argentina + pasos por el Inter y la Lazio, y les decimos no, gracias porque nunca han estado ni jugado en Chile, no sienten la camiseta, etc.

P P Hernández también es un pelotero competente, titular en España. Además, me he fijado viendo al Celta que tiene mucha técnica y buen cabezazo.

 

Lo de Ulloa tiene sentido, porque está en ese nivel ahora, pero da lo mismo que Zarate haya sido campeon juvenil. Ulloa ademas, a diferencia de Barroso, si tiene nexo sanguineo por lo que cero drama en que lo llamen. Yo pienso lo mismo en eso de "sentir" la camiseta o tener "garra" son puros cuentos.

Jorge Sampaoli tendría “sangre en el ojo” con Matías Fernández

Pese a que fue sondeado, el seleccionador nacional habría preferido prescindir del volante creativo motivado por su negativa a operarse después de Brasil 2014 y disputar con problemas físicos el Mundial, un tema que siempre ha sido motivo de críticas hacia el argentino.

Matías Fernández es uno de los grandes estandartes de la Selección Chilena en el último tiempo. El talentoso mediocampista formado en Colo Colo podía estar pasando por malos momentos en Europa, pero siempre se las arregló para ser un pilar de La Roja.

Tras su baja como prenominado al Mundial de Brasil 2014, el volante de la Fiorentina desapareció de la nómina de Jorge Sampaoli, hecho que tendría una lectura escondida más allá de las explicaciones del DT.

Pese a que viene saliendo de una lesión en el aductor del muslo izquierdo, Fernández ha encontrado su mejor juego en La Viola y se pensaba que podía ser opción para los amistosos ante Uruguay y Venezuela, pero nuevamente no fue llamado desde Pinto Durán.

“Acá hay un tema de fondo. No pasa porque juegue mucho o poco, o si tuvo molestias físicas. Simplemente Sampaoli no le perdona que haya preferido operarse antes del Mundial”, dijeron fuentes cercanas de la selección a La Tercera.
¿El argumento del casildense cada vez que ha sido consultado? Resguardar la continuidad del volante en la Fiorentina.
De esta forma, la gran razón que explica la ausencia del mediocampista sería la negativa del 14 para jugar lesionado la Copa del Mundo o apresurar los tiempos como lo hizo Arturo Vidal con su rodilla.

“Matías decidió operarse y mira cómo está ahora en Fiorentina, pasa por su mejor momento. Felipe (Gutiérrez) no se operó y terminó agravándose al punto de perderse el año. Arturo (Vidal) terminó viendo frustrado su fichaje en el Manchester United”, concluyó otra fuente al matutino.

 

En realidad, su equipo juega en lo que corresponde a la segunda división de Portugal.
