Sigh. Why on earth did we spend all that money on Pulisic when we still insist on starting two 30+ year olds in our attack?
I think Frank is clearly hoping Hudson-Odoi will provide competition for that. We’ll see about Pulisic.
Thats now the biggest sticking point for me. We need to blood in a 70 mil signing who was a regular at his last club and is captain of his national team? What’s the thinking here? Barkley is subpar. Willy and Pedro are OK. Pul showed in his first few apps that he has an amazingly high ceiling. He just needs to be playing games to get the consistency.
Solid. Very solid. Work continues to be done and that was without kante or rudiger. I'll take the 3 points and the clean sheet every day.
Still don't understand why we start Pedro and Willian. Sure, Willian can beat a man and does some cute flicks, but all he does is dribble inside and shoot every single time. Pedro was poor today, and has been for most of the season. We have a young player we spent a ton of money on, who showed well in his first few starts, and can't get a minute in the league.
3 points. Clean sheet. Yes. Job done. Yes, I would like to see Pulisic, Willian did score today though. Pedro? Maybe Frank is saving Pulisic for midweek?
That was definitely a professional performance despite some average showings. And that is exactly the kind of stuff that will get us into the CL again next season. Kante, Rud, Emerson and (imho.. I genuinely feel optimistic and have faith in him) eventually a regularly playing Pul and this is a good looking team
I mean, it’s been said already but he was playing for one of the better teams in Germany and in the CL. Pedro didn’t do anything that warranted him starting.
Yes, should have listed emerson as well, he's been good this year. Today would have been a carabao cup squad in recent times. Today they played like a premier league side and that's exciting. It's going to take a season of foundation building but this approach is the only one that gives us a shot of catching up. Buying 2-3 players alone wont cut it, have to lean hard on the academy. Established managers have not taken the risk (and they didnt need to which is proven by the trophy cabinet contents) and would likely not be able to be told to play the youth in the same way that Lampard has done. He also has a way to go as a manager, but plenty of signs that there is the genesis of something very good here. Feels like a new era, one that is going to be a whole lot less reliant on the roman purse to get us by. Patience continues to be the watch word for this season. PS please frank, give CP a decent run at some point this side of Christmas, it's starting to become a 'thing' and it needn't be.
Pedro was looking really good this season before the injury, and he played for a "decent" CL team before his arrival as well, and has more silver than near anyone in Football right now. Pul simply needs to get stronger on the ball in "this League", and if he is getting knocked off the ball in matches probably happening a bit too much in practice, and he played most of the first 4 PL matches but did not quite do enough to cement himself as a starter. That said I think he will adjust and play a lot, he has the talent and ambition and hard working drive and I think he will see plenty of time and starts over the season especially with us in 4 comps. A little patience is in order, many a high priced player from abroad has taken some time to adjust to the League
https://www.chelsea-news.co/2019/09/chelsea-player-lost-ball-third-premier-league/ The article says Pulisic lost the ball the third most in the league this season. I think Frank's right that Pulisic needs to be given time to adapt to the physical demands of the English game.
Thoughts.... PK or not... Jorgy was man of the match. Tammy has to score on a chance like that. Team overall needed to be more clinical today. Barkley isn’t good enough to start. Pulisic should have been brought on. Good to see Cho get some time and flash the same potential prior to injury. Tomori looks like he could be the real deal.
