NPSL teams play, what, about 12 regular season games, vs 28 for USL PRO? Plus, for a few teams, Open Cup and playoff. The NPSL regular season lasts about six or seven weeks in May and June, USL PRO lasts from March or April through September. From my fan's perspective, I like going to FC Buffalo games, but the NPSL season is unsatisfyingly short. Maybe you meant that as an indictment of USL PRO more than anything else, but the NPSL has its own significant issues as well.
Im fairly sure he means that the USL Pro isn't much of a step up. Depends on the region but generally the PDL is better than the NPSL is most markets. Is it 3 time's better in terms of investment im not sure but results in the us open cup has been a big indicator that the PDL is better than the NPSL, at least on the field.
Yeah, not sure about that. There aren't really good objective ways to measure the relative strengths of leagues, but someone did an ELO analysis of Open Cup results, and the gap between NPSL and USL PRO in 2013 and 2014 was larger than the gap between USL PRO and MLS. So on that evidence, saying that USL PRO isn't really a step up from NPSL is like saying that MLS isn't really a step up from USL PRO. And as I said, the short NPSL season is unsatisfying to me as a fan. But the league works in large part because it's cheap and has a short season that allows good college players to fill out squads. Those are features, not bugs. Pretending that those obvious limitations are somehow virtues that make the league superior to other leagues that play longer seasons, pay wages, have more revenue, and have objectively better results over higher league opposition, on the other hand... that's just cultish nonsense.
I cant find a edit button but I meant USL PDL not USL PRO in many of those sentences and it goes back and forth. Generally i meant USL PDL not USL PRO. The USL PDL is a little better than the NPSL but not by much. Big gap between NPSL or USL PDL and USL PRO. Hope this clarify's my statements a little.
August 5, 2014 The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce Chattanooga FC head coach Bill Elliott as the recipient of the Alexander Arellano Memorial Trophy. The award, given to the league’s top head coach, was voted on by NPSL teams throughout the country. “I am humbled by the award. I feel very blessed to be surrounded by so many good people,” said Elliott. “I am extremely proud to accept the award on behalf of the entire CFC organization, the city of Chattanooga, and everyone associated with us.” In just his third year with the club, Elliott has led the team to three consecutive Southeast Conference titles (2012-2014), a South Region Final (2013), a South Region Championship (2014) and two National Finals (2012, 2014). His record over three seasons is 30 wins, 6 losses, and 7 draws. This season he also led the club to its first U.S. Open Cup tournament win, which also happened to be the first time an NPSL team had defeated a professional team in the tournament in sixteen attempts. “We’ve always known Bill was going to have success with Chattanooga FC,” said General Manager Sean McDaniel. “His ability to relate to the players and fans are wonderful traits and clearly give him the ability to reach the top of his profession. He absolutely deserves this award.” The Alexander Arellano Memorial Trophy is an award with a very special meaning. Alex Arellano was a young man who touched the lives of many in the NPSL, so much that the league crafted an award in his memory. Alex, the middle son of Real San Jose owner Nick Arellano, passed away in 2012 at the age of 25.
To be honest, PDL/NPSL are same level- doesn't really matter the level of investment the team has to make now. The top teams from both leagues are the same and same with the middle sets of teams. Difference is in the Bottom tier of both leagues. That may be where the 'investment' comes into play. But in terms of level of play - now that NPSL has been around a few years there are just as many NPSL players moving into Professional Soccer as there are from the PDL - just the NPSL never kept track of items like that where the PDL has the professional standards set. NPSL has a massive ways to go still to be on par with the USL overall as a professional run front office, but this is the CFC thread so I'll leave it at that. Congrats to CFC again on another fantastic season.
August 6, 2014 The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce Chattanooga FC goalkeeper Gregory Hartley as the recipient of the NPSL Golden Glove award. The award, given to the league’s top goalkeeper, was voted on by NPSL teams throughout the country. Goalkeeper Greg Hartley is in his third year with the club, and has been an integral part of the team as the starting keeper for all three seasons. In 19 games this season, Hartley allowed only 19 goals, and in NPSL league play he only allowed 13 goals in 18 games, averaging 0.7 goals allowed per game. Hartley made many game-saving stops this season and was a big reason for the team’s postseason success. Memorable moments include two out of three penalty kicks he saved — once in stoppage time against NASL side Atlanta Silverbacks in U.S. Open Cup play, the other in the Southeast Conference Championship during a crucial first half moment. He also logged eight shutouts this year. “It’s great that people recognize your talents and it just been an amazing week,” he added. "To win this award since there is only one goalkeeper in the NPSL that can win it is fantastic. It feels great to know that people from all around the country are out there watching you play.” The Manchester, England native has spent time with the Manchester City Academy, Lindsey Wilson College, Belhaven University, and Georgia Gwinnett College. Hartley ended his collegiate soccer career in the fall of 2012 after earning a laundry list of awards including NAIA All-American, SSAC Defensive Player of the Year, SSAC All-Conference Team, NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, and SSAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
