New year, new thread. Anyway, Cruz Azul vs. Jaguares was the second match of 2014 that I was able to catch (Missed the first game of the season). Amazingly enough, I liked what I saw. Can't say much of the game vs. Santos because playing a man up for most of the game muddies the waters in evaluating the team. Even though we are at only the third game, this was actually a team out there. And it being an away match made that even more amazing. I'm not saying we are a powerhouse this season or world beaters but at least it's nice to see a step in the right direction. Of course now when Fabian comes back from his suspension and Emana is back, we'll play like crap again. Anway, trying to stay optimistic.
Haven't watched any of the games so far but is Fabian as shit as ppl are saying? I had high hopes for him
corona has given up only 1 goal so far. he should have another good game against chivas. thats optimistic!
Araujo? Yes, much better than useless Cata Chuletita? lolno, that guy is a troncazo, the reason why Santos isn't playing well is because Caixinha has him as a starter, it's like playing with 10 men every game.
Fabian, that is such a 'fail'. Even though that was probably something ESPN wrote up for him to say, he should have declined. Let Chuy Corona do these promos, at least he sounds serious.
Besides wrapping up a liguilla spot early, some people may ask: what does it matter if Cruz Azul finishes as superlider? They'd still have to go through the unforgiving playoffs to get the league title (...damn you Moi ), and no Copa Libertadores spots are up for grabs like in the Apertura. Nonetheless, Cruz Azul finishing first in the Clausura regular season would guarantee significant continental benefits, specifically multiple shots at qualifying for the next Concachampions: - Cruz Azul would qualify on its own merits by reaching the Final. - Failing that, León making the Final would guarantee us the last Mexican berth, according to the FMF's hand-me-down rules. - Lastly, an América-Santos Laguna Final grants us the MEX4 spot no matter how it finishes. América losing to anyone else would also do the trick.
To me, the important thing is not to get into the Liguilla on a losing streak. More than just qualifying into Concachampions, they need to stay mentally strong and continue to win points, especially on the road. For right now, they need a good showing against Tijuana. Get some points after their first loss. It's a cliche but they need to focus on this next game and not even be thinking about 'superlider' status. Tena needs to keep the team focused.
