Hey everyone, After refereeing many games in our region, and having gained the respect and admiration of those who saw how he generally called games fairly and allowed the game to be played, Carlos Batres has retired...in order to take a(n unfortunately) vacated seat on CONCACAF's referee committee. Any chance having a guy who was good at his job that high up in the system will lead to improvement of the standard of refereeing in our neck of the woods?
But doesn't Chila hate referees? He was almost as bad this World Cup as Andy Gray was on ESPN for Euro 2008 - if the ref makes a bad call, it doesn't matter what happens in the next five minutes of play, they'll keep on ranting.
Are you talking about the penalty, or another decision in the game? Because on that play, as much as De Rossi dove like a little ..., he did get his shirt tugged and like it or not, the ref has the prerogative to give a penalty for that.
I was thinking more of his handling of the US-Mexico game in Columbus last year (as in, not letting either side get away with cheap fouls and making sure a game went on). Maybe that was his "Freddy Adu in the u-20 World Cup" moment.
Sure. He handled things well in that game. Please tell me one thing he did wrong. Obviously If Carlos Batres is getting this position is for a good reason. He was chosen for 3 WCs. I know a lot of you haters out there dislike him because of the way he called fouls against your team but most of the time they were good calls. So congratulations to Mr. Batres for this triumph.
He's had plenty of crap games as well. It's more accurate to say "there are no good refs in CONCACAF".
Obviously a demonstration of Chilvert's ignorance. "en Guatemala sólo saben jugar beisball". Funny when a Guatemalan scored 10 goals in the Paraguayan league just last year.
