"According to souces from the Fire Department of the "Generalitat" of Catalunya, Josep Puyol passed away at 4:57 p.m. this afternoon after falling on top of an excavating machine that he was operating. The causes of the accident still are not clear, but it was known that the father of the Barca player was doing renovative work to a place situated in the zone known as 'Prat d'Or'". The Article goes on to say that Carles recieved word of his father's death right after arriving to Coruña where he was with the team for Saturday's match. He left straight way back to Barcelona. Best wishes to Carles and his family during this difficult time. Futbol seems like one of the best things in this world to dedicate our time and energy too. In a week where we are all complaining about the team, it just reminds us that there are more important things in life than football If there is anyhting positive to draw from this, it's that Snr Puyol was able to see his son ascend to the very pinnacle of his chosen profession and bring joy to millions of people around the world, lifting domestic titles and the Champions League as the heart, symbol, and soul of the FC Barcelona team, and by extension, the region of Catalonia

And typical to the Puyol family way of doing things, his son is making like 3-4 million Euros a year and dad is still running his excavator on a Friday afternoon to make a living. Just to clear up the translation of that article, the machine toppled over and crushed him, he did not fall on it. The Puyol's are admirable people, from La Pobla de Lillet in the Pyrenees, hard working, pretty humble, discreet. Usually they do not attend their son's games, they stay home, mom got too nervous and his father was not really a big football fan. Straight forward and dedicated like their son, their lives went on regardless of their son's success, as they had before he was famous. Pics of the team arriving in Coruña quite shaken, no smiles and not too much time for the fans waiting at the airport, who likely did not understand the players not responding at all to them.
