Now we know when the expansion draft for #LAFC will happen: Dec. 12. LAFC will have five picks in the draft. All 22 existing MLS clubs will be able to protect 11 players prior to the Expansion Draft; Generation adidas players and off-budget Homegrown Players are automatically exempt from selection and do not need to be protected. Only a single player can be drafted from any one club. Teams’ lists are due on Dec. 10, so while LAFC will have surely done their homework ahead of time, they will have a short amount of time to come up with their list. To their advantage this time around, they don’t have to strategize in case another team in the draft takes their selections, since they are the only team involved this time around. Considering this draft will likely take about three minutes and past editions have not been streamed, I highly doubt there will be any kind of “real time” coverage, just the results when they drop. But again, with only one team doing this and them effectively handing over a list of picks, it’s not like there’s much to see, really. It’s official: Omar Gaber is a Los Angeles Football Club player. The news was announced on Tuesday, with FC Basel, LAFC and the player himself all announcing the move, which is a loan for one year beginning in January 2018. LAFC said the signing was made with Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and he was a discovery signing, meaning a player who was on LAFC’s “dibs” list within MLS.
