He is Being moved aside to give just gone 17 Rhian Brewster game time. Has a youth player ever gone from a premier league club to the MLS?
RSL and Liverpool have agreed to a year-long loan for US U-20 Brooks Lennon. Announcement could come today: https://t.co/CajNdHaiP4— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) February 2, 2017
Does the loan make sense for Liverpool and Lennon because it allows him to stay in the US and train while playing with the U20s?
I don't know about Lennon's perspective, but I doubt Liverpool care about whether Lennon plays for US U20 or not. If they'd got a loan offer they adjudged to be better from a club in Europe they would have taken it.
It's good for Lennon because MLS is a higher level than the U23 PL. It's good for Liverpool because they know Lennon is a real long-shot to ever make it to the first team, so this move puts him a place where someone else will pay some of his salary. If he takes off to the point where he becomes interesting to Klopp, then all the better, even if it's quite unlikely.
Now that he has played and scored in MLS, he has met the criteria for graduation to YA: https://tribuna.com/liverpoolfc/en/news/1831553/ @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent

Has had a successful loan: Honored to be selected for the 2017 MLS Homegrown Game representing @RealSaltLake #MLSHomegrown https://t.co/BZZkQC4Wx2— Brooks Lennon (@brookslennon) July 12, 2017
Once a player has played in a first tier league, he should move to the YA section. An MLS player who goes overseas to a 2nd division is still listed as YA, not YAA. It's not specifically listed in the rules, but it seems silly that the only 1st tier league that doesn't qualify is MLS. Even the Faroe Islands Premier League qualifies as first tier. @bungadiri -- ruling please.

Folks familiar with a player who has had first team experience in MLS are unlikely to look for them in the Academy. It also parallels the criteria applied to non-US leagues. In other words: This is Sparta.
