I guess this guy will never realize that in a big game he can't play his usual 'dont give a ******** about defending' football. Hes been in the middle of every humiliation since he became a regular and he still doesn't run back and makes half assed challenges on the rare occasion when he does.
but again coach should tell him. cause if we will het Liverpool, for example, i'm pretty sure Klopp will say run run and run into Marcelo, and when you have Sane,Salah,Firmino.. it will hurt team a lot.
I don't think at this point the coach has authority to make him do it. Marcelo is probably like 'I cant both attack and defend'. He can, hes just lazy. Roberto Carlos was running up and down all day long. Hell Carvajal is doing it right now.
To be fair, Roberto Carlos gets caught out of position a lot. It's just that he is such a freak of nature that he could cover so much ground. No one has that v12 engine. Not even Marcelo.
Marcelo was just bad today. The positive note is that he usually have a freak game following one of these bad days.
Not sure its all about engine... A lot of it has to do with sheer willpower/determination. I think Marcelo can do more on the defensive end, but he's simply too lazy.
Oh I agree that Marcelo gets lazy a lot. But he isn't as athletic and physical as Roberto Carlos. That's very obvious.
on their second goal, when the pass went out to the man to cross, he did a very casual reverse turn to get into defensive position...he does this from time to time, and after their first cross for a goal, simply inexcusably lackadaisical
Wouldn't get too worried about it, he's not that young anymore and having played 90 minutes against Atletico 72 hours earlier didn't help. He was amazing in the first leg and also had a great game against Atletico
I would get worried. It seems every time we lose its because of his indolence. Hes a weak spot; hes so bad defensively that I'm not sure even his enormous contribution on offense is enough to compensate. Marcelo is one of my favorite players due to his skill, but I sincerely hope to see a lot more of Theo next year. Hopefully he got over the jitters of playing his first season at such a big club.
One of the most frustratingly inconsistent players I have ever seen. And to be honest, I get upset when I see some fans say he is better than Roberto Carlos. At his best( which usually doesn't involve defending) he is amazing. At his worst, I want him sold asap.
Dani Alves has been their captain since 2016. I just went to the Brazil forum.... I happened to see a few post linking Martcelo to the captaincy. Never mind. Tite has rotated the captaincy. Marcelo never got it. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/case...orld-cup-qualifier/1gckmhbcup0as1cjhol3372k12
I'm pretty sure that Casemiro wore it at least once with Tite. He's a potential candidate alongside Marcelo.

People can criticize us all they want, but we have an excellent locker room. Our players are happy, and there's a good atmosphere. It's easy to say since we're back on our feet from that ugly season start, but even when things were difficult, if the team survived that's also because our dressing room is strong. You don't have players that fight each other. Everyone moves as one. Zidane really did a great job ont that, because Benitez failed hard to do this.
Marcelo: "I have been a companion of Firmino for four years. I will not comment on what he said, but I have my own interpretation of what Ramos said. You can call him an idiot or not, but there has to be respect for a fellow professional."My capitan!— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) June 7, 2018 Marcelo: "As for Firmino talking, I heard it in the way how Ramos meant it - as a joke. I won't give you my opinion on what [Firmino said]."— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) June 7, 2018
