From the article: "With players still in transatlantic negotiations, the manager's deadline seems unlikely to be met."

So maybe we have to wait a little longer to find out... Last time I talked with someone with the Breakers (about a week and a half ago), they had initiated talks with all of the int'l picks, but no contracts had been signed. I'm guessing they'll want to finalize things relatively soon though, so they know what their needs are in the next draft.

If Boston takes ARod in the draft....hmmm. How much does a Breakers jersey size XL go for right now?:D

Or what about a Boston Breakers - Amy Rodriguez bobble-head doll, that has the soccer ball connected by a sting to her foot.

How much would that sell for? $15.00 perhaps.

    WPS-M,

Don't even get this board started on bobbleheads! This is not a community that is receptive to polyresin promotional playthings, as I've learned at my own peril. Socfandan has been particularly merciless in his anti-nodder crusade.

(But I've still written your idea down on an index card)

An Amy Rodriguez bobblehead doll with a soccer ball on a string, that moves on and off her foot, would be sweet.

It would be like a yo-yo, but the soccer ball would go all around, and still be connected by a string to her golden foot.

You could model it after this picture below (but in her Boston Breakers jersey) ............

I'm guessing this means that there is no further news from the international front.

Consolidating info from several sources since I was mightily confused.

    USWNT allocations:
    Player Position Age
    Angela Hucles F/MF 30
    Kristine Lilly MF/F 37
    Heather Mitts D 30

    International rights draft:
    Kelly Smith F 30
Fabiana da Silva Simões F 19
Maycon (Andréia dos Santos) MF 31
    Shinobu Ohno F 24

    General draft 1:
    Amy LePeilbet D 26
    Nancy Augustyniak Goffi D 29
    Sue Weber D 22
    Kristen Luckenbill GK 29

    Post-draft discovery:
    Emma Byrne GK 29
    Christine Latham F 27

    By age:
    U23 - 2
    23-29 - 6
    O30 - 5

    By position:
    GK - 2
    D - 4
    M - 2
    F - 5
(counted Lilly as M and Hucles as F)

I wonder whether Tony considered Argentina's Fabiana, Fabiana Vallejos, a 23 y.o. forward who helped Argentina top Brasil in the last South American cup?

    What are the roster limits?

How many will be drafted in January?

Due to the nature of the next draft, the average age of the team will surely decrease. I just hope we get A-Rod.

    WPS making deals:
The Boston Breakers have an agreement with Canadian striker Christine Latham, the WUSA's rookie of the year in that league's final season of 2003.

What other area players do you think the Breakers might take in the draft?

I wouldn't mind seeing Maggie Tomecka find her way back to Boston...

might be wishful thinking but Tiffany Weimer would look great in Breaker blue as well...

Amy Rodriguez noted on her live video chat that she has not signed a contract so I'm guessing nobody has signed a contract. I'll add the picks, even though its premature.

    Goalkeeper (3)
    Emma Byrne
    Jaimel Johnson
    Kristin Luckenbill

    Defender (7)
    Nancy Augustyniak
    Ariel Harris
    Amy LePeilbet
    Heather Mitts
    Kasey Moore
    Alex Scott
    Sue Weber

    Midfielders (6)
    Stacy Bishop
    Angela Hucles
    Allison Martino
    Maycon
    Ashley Nick
    Kelly Smith

    Forwards (7)
    Fabiana
    Christine Latham
    Kristine Lilly
    Jennifer Nobis
    Shinobu Ohno
    Amy Rodriguez
    Kelley Schmedes
    Lindsay Vera

This leaves us with 23 spots, so we have one open (assuming all our draft picks signs).

    That is a strong roster.

The Breakers renounced the rights to Maicon to make room for Alex Scott per the team email I got today:

Breakers Acquire England Defender Alex Scott in Pre-Draft Trade

In addition to the 10 players selected in today’s draft, the Breakers also acquired the WPS playing rights to England international defender Alex Scott via a trade with the Chicago Red Stars that was finalized on Thursday. Boston sent its natural second round (14th pick overall) and fourth round (28th overall) picks to Chicago, in exchange for the Red Stars’ sixth (41st overall) and 10th round (69th overall) picks.

In order to stay under the league maximum of international player negotiating rights, the Breakers relinquished their rights to Brazilian international Maicon.

Cross Emma Byrne off the list too:

    http://www.womensprosoccer.com/newsitem_ektid1088.aspx

"Jan. 16, 2009: The Boston Breakers have relinquished their rights to Ireland's Emma Byrne."

This move means they didn't have to relinquish rights to Maicon to stay under the International limit? Or is it to early for me to be doing math?
Does this mean something else is in the works?

Minus Byrne and Maicon, we are at 21 possible players, and as JMM noted they aren't signed, the Breakers just have the rights to them.
There 22 spots in all (18 senior roster and 4 developmental).

I would expect to see some names added through tryouts and discovery designations before training camp, I would not think they would go into camp short-rostered.

Your team was looking too good to be true! Still looks good and you have a lot of players I really like and just enjoy watching. Never mind Heather Mitts. How about Alex Scott, Kelly Smith, Christine Latham, Amy Rodgriguez and Ashley Nick? And Lilly the Living Legend? And you thought you were going to get Emma Byrne, too? You greedy, no-good so-and-sos!

Funny though, I thought the trade for Alex Scott was going to be the domino-effect that would get you Emma (Kelly's teammate at Arsenal). I was afraid you'd wind up with Julie Fleeting, too. Wish you could've - I'd love to see both players over here in America.
