That is the value in holding midfielders like Busquets, Javi Martinez...and for Dortmund Bender and potentially Ginter...they can play as the holding midfielder and as a sweeper. so if a team plays with 3 attackers (4-3-3, 4-2-3-1) you can play with a 4- man backline...but when a team decides to play with 2 attackers then you can morph to a 3-man backline
Isn't the primary job of a holding midfielder to be a slightly advanced sweeper? All the aforementioned players have unique skillsets, different from each other that helps them stand out. Very few team play with 2 attackers and the newer 4-4-2 have been discussed at length here. Even the diamond midfield deployed by Liverpool is very compact and dynamic. If you read up on Michael Cox's articles on Zonalmarking, he talks about how a 3 man defense can be a disaster against a 2 striker system.
I don't see how a 3-mans defence is a disaster, no tactic is a disaster. When you have a 3 man defence, it means you've got more options on other areas of the pitch which also means the opponent has to be careful cause you'll have a heavily packed midfield. IMO, no formation is bad or something. It just depends on the players really.
You answered your roundabout question yourself. I stated that pure wingbacks aren't bred like other positions in most youth setups which means even if you have a player like Dani Alves within your ranks, he'll likely be playing as a full-back or a wide midfielder. So getting him to switch to a wingback isn't going to be easy when he is in the top flight. But that's an easier problem to solve. A more difficult problem is to get his team mates acquainted to his style of play. A really good example is Barcelona under Pep. Busquets was well drilled and intelligent enough to drop between the Pique and Puyol at the right time. Iniesta knew he had the liberty to venture forward and overlap with David Villa because Abidal rarely ventured forward. A 3 man defence doesn't automatically mean a loaded midfield. A 3-4-3 isn't necessarily a packed midfield.
Immobile scored 3 goals and gave 2 assists in the last match. He participated in all goals in the italian victory against a brazilian serie A team (5 -3).
I am a borussia fan who will now cheer fot Immobile Haha There are a lot of Dortmund fans here in brazil.
Ciro looks like he could be really awesome for us and a bargain at that...I can't wait to see him in the Buli. Hoping he has a good world cup
Agreed. And I think Immobile can add some things that Lewandowski couldn't as much as I focus on what Lewandowski can do that Immobile maybe can't. For example, Lewa was never a speed demon, and occasionally it slowed us down on the break. Immobile looks much faster, with a superior burst and explosiveness.
But there are a lot of things that Lewandowski can do...which probably are more valuable for Dortmund that Immobile can't do, he is a more complete and mature player than Immobile
Damn imagine an Immobile, Lewy striker pairing. Now if only we had some luck with creativity behind it as well.
I think it would have eventually become a feud. Just as it will in Munich if Bayern doesn't sell Mandzukic........ Besides, if Lewa had stayed, BVB would have never bought Immobile.
Why don't you just stop supporting Bayern and start supporting Dortmund. Make things easier on yourselves.
end products look better than raw talents. Sure you like your car better the way it is than to be given a chunk of metal rubber and plastic
That's a terrible analogy. How did your end products look when getting thrashed 5-0 against the same team that nearly pissed against us.
