Per Nick, the Union are now entering the largest professional soccer league in the world ... 3-team inner-state rivalry, between the U2 team, HCI, and RiverHounds. Diamond is the new gold.
Nick trying to sell Open Cup Final tickets during his little speech. Ha ha. I actually don't mind Sak as a purely business guy. Every corporation needs a slimy, user car salesman type of guy that gets shit done.
Lehigh president: "And I'd like to thank you, Union CEO Nick *pauses, squints at paper* Sock-a-wits."
Fan vote on the name pretty much seals the deal on Bethlehem Steel FC, right? There no way this thing is called anything else.
DI - Championship. Yes it plays there. The Lehigh vs Lafayette game is one of the great football rivalry games. I'm thinking tickets to a Lehigh game as a season ticket perk would be nice.
I still want platinum. all that being said very excited for this news. I'm not so sure the Union actually own the Bethlehem Steel trademark... could be a legal issue... if it wins the write in I wouldn't be shocked to see "Lehigh Valley Steel" end up as the name. - and honestly it wouldn't surprise me to hear the team prefers "Lehigh Valley" as the geographical portion of the name.
Why put the team in Bethlehem if you're NOT going to name it Bethlehem Steel? They're going to Union this up too aren't they?
It's all going to come down to licensing/naming rights...and a public vote. ETA: FWIW, and I know I'm one of the few, I'd hate for them to call it Bethlehem Steel FC. There is so much history with that name that it would just be dumb to 1) link it to an FO like the Union's, and 2) relegate the name to a Tier 3 team/league.
Did they not acquire those rights before making all the BSFC merch? I know a lot of it had a redesigned logo, but I thought some of it used the original too.
It is possible they bought it outright, but a "limited license" could also have been purchased (which may be why more have not been produced for sale). The latter is possible since we know our FO likes to go the cheap route.
Only if we spell it the English way. In case they don't own the rights to Bethlehem Steel, what should be the backup name? Something like Lehigh Valley SC sounds boring.
