    Neither.

From what I understand they weren't a prolific goal-scoring duo. Cubillas was the #10 and Sotil the support forward. I'm guessing it was like the Palacios-Julinho tandem for Cristal.

heres the lineup for the match that won us the 75 copa america

PER: Sartor - Soria, Meléndez, Chumpitaz, Díaz - Quesada, Ojeda, Rojas (Ramírez) -Cubillas, Sotil, Oblitas

the way i see it we played a 3 foward line with nene, cholo and ciego in a 4-3-3

then cachito comes in and i assume either cubillas or oblitas dropped into the midfield

man we had some great players :(

    btw in that copa
oblitas and cachito were our highest scorers

They got that line up messed up. No way Percy Rojas was in the midfield, he was a pure #9 a center forward.

The attack probably looked like this

    ------Cubillas
    Sotil----Rojas----Oblitas

I have 15 minute recap of the 1978 WC Peru-Scotland game and the 1969 Argentina-Peru WCQ and Cubillas was definitely a mid on both so I don't think it'd be any different in 1975

Percy Rojas was a forward, but used to play on the right side in that team ... Sotil was the center forward.

But if I am not mistaken, and being too lazy to research, Sotil played only the final against Colombia. Casaretto was the forward that scored at the Minas Gerais against Brazil ...

When they defeated Chile in Matute, Oblitas and Percy scored ...

Anecdote: Golazo ... a chocolate back in 1975, would have the diagrams for the goals scored by Peru in the inside cover ... they were collectibles so to speak. :D

yep el cholo only played one match

i think our next best performance after the 75 copa was the 97 effort with ternero as coach and brazil killing us 7-0 in the semis

Yeah it's a bootleg tape of Peru's "glorious moments."

Wouldn't mind putting it up but I have no idea how to upload video tapes into the net... sorry.

Oh yeah, that website isn't too reliable. They show Melendez as being part of Boca Juniors but he left them in 1972.

I should've known. That was Efer starting this thread, and I see now he meant 'striker' not 'stricker'. Choocha.

    -----------------Quiroga
    Soria---Chumpitaz---Melendez---Panadero Diaz
    --------Velasquez-----Quesada
    ---------------Percy Rojas

I actually have that 1978 game in its entirety. I never digitized it because I always saw clips of Peru-Scotland on YouTube, so I thought it was widely available.

anyways, from the stuff that I've seen I say the best striker is Flavio Maestri. Not so much for his ...goalscoring, but because he always managed to get himself involved in the play--one way or another. When I saw him at the 2004 Copa America, despite his age, he was still the most active forward in the playmaking dept; he got everyone involved. (Farfan mostly just opened the left side, and pizarro just stumbled and lost the ball like always.)

my uncles, on the other hand, always talk about Lolo Fernandez like he was out of this world. My older cousins generally talk about Navarro.

Oh yeah, Maestri was clearly the best, no doubt.
