Let's be honest, even without the biases the 2002 World Cup was not great. All the big teams crashing out early, some thanks to controversial refereeing errors. Germany reached the final but it was one of the poorest German teams out there strolling to the final without playing against decent opposition. Brazil never won a World Cup more easily.
Not really. Those were some great games that he listed! The Dutch have been involved in some stinkers, but when they click they really click and the end result is usually a classic. It's hard to argue with the 5-1 match against Spain or the 3-2 against Brazil.
It was one-sided entertainment. With that said, I did consider the 2006 Argentina 6-0 Serbia and Montenegro game mainly because of that second goal which, for me, was perhaps the best team goal I've seen at a World Cup. But that final scoreline made me rethink and I ended up listing games that had that edge-of-seat thrill where the result was in doubt until the final whistle. Those are much more entertaining to me than lopsided scorelines.
I agree on the principal, but apart from both games having a Goal-of-the-Tournament candidate, there weren't many similarities between Holland x Spain and Serbia x Argentina. Spain scored first and the outcome was still in doubt until about 20-25 minutes to play. Plus it was the favorite that was the one getting (sort of) blown-out. And not that the best game has to be hyped-up and featuring recognizable stars, but Holland x Spain was maybe the only hyped-up match in 2014 that didn't turn into a disappointment for neutrals (at least that I can recall ).
