It's actually from onother forum, but it's impossible to poast ther IMO 1) Garrincha 2) Maradona 3) Pele 4) Ortega 5) Denilson But I'm more familiar with SA soccer
Well this might not be the best thing to say but I always liked Daniel Da Cruz Carvalho (Dani). He played at Ajax for three years I believe. Every now and then he would have the ball somewhere around the midfield and then he would make this very fast run with the ball, all the way to the enemy goal. He made it look really easy. But besides him I wouldn't know. But he's a few leagues lower than these old boys above.
Hands down (or punching the ball) Maradona. The man had the best feel for the ball ever. No one could match him, period.
Diego Armando Maradona - There can be NO other answer, just ask the 1986 England team. Despues vino el Diego y tocamos el cielo - Nos gano la copa compliendo su sueno.
So who are the best dribblers of today's game? I don't get to watch Denilson very much unfortunately.
Great Maradna I agree Maradona was something else, and he played in a time when the physical aspect of the game was more developted (for good or worse) than Garrincha/Pela Era But even considering this, have you guys ever saw any of the Garrincha games? WC 58 and 62? or even with his team Botafogo What about European player does anybody deserve to be ranked with those Football GOD? Owen, Best, Platini...
I say Ortega has the best hips in the game. He shakes defenders off, making his vertabrae look elastic while he does it. Denilson is fun but not so effective in dribbling. Ronaldo is pretty damn good too.
I've never seen any footage of him, but Sir Stanley Matthews was called the "Wizard of the Dribble." Here's a good link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/655011.stm
Nice link thanks I found this one is English about Garrincha http://www.isfa.com/server/web/garrincha/ If you have a chance to watch the Fifa official WC films of 58 and 62 look for him They say it was one of his performance in Mexico that for the first time the crowd yeld "OLE! OLE"
George Best was much better than Pele at dribbiling. Ryan Giggs and Figo are better than Denilson at dribbling. Ronaldo before his injury.
Maradona hands down. Of the guys today - the most impressive is Zidane to me. He may not always beat the whole team of the dribble, but it's impossible to take the ball away from this guy! Also, Ronaldinho impressed me at the World Cup.
walking in a waddle wonderland Chris Waddle was the best winger/dribbler I personally saw play. When he was at top form he could win games on his own. Lest we forget - John Barnes' goal against Brazil in the Maracana...you're not likely to see a better bit of dribbling than that.
I don't know if he was the best, but in all my years of following soccer Garrincha I have never ever seen anyone like him.
Im surprised nobody has mentioned the great (and traitor) Michael Laudrup... Also I agree with the Garrincha posts....he was a great player and dribbler
1. Maradona 2. Pele 3. Zidane 4.Platini 5.Sir Stanely Mathews 6. Garrincha 7. George Best 8. Sir Stanely Matthews 9. Rivelino 10. Ronaldo Owen? He is not a dribller. He just gets past people with speed. His speed is amazing, not his dribbling. And no way can you put Denilson and Ortega in front of these guys, unless it was just the 90's. Denislon actually is pretty bad. Like in the world Cup, with players opened, he dribbled on and on. He lost it over half the time, too.
In terms of close control Zidane is miles ahead of everyone, including Maradona and Pele. The fact he has no pace yet nobody can get the ball is what makes it look so great. Other players need a bit of pace or they lose the ball. I still don't see why Pele is so high on this list, I've never seen him dribble much at all.
You have Sir Stanely Matthews twice, Just to let you know. It's ok though, he was an awesome dribbler.
I'm partial to George Best as well, since I had the advantage of watching him play for the San Jose Earthquakes back in their NASL days-- but I can't believe no one's mentioned Johann Cruyff yet... Uncanny on the ball, and his center of gravity-- seemed like he used it somewhat differently than anyone else... Cheers, William
