    Best defender, Paolo Maldini.

Alessandro Nesta is a close second.

excuse my ignorance.... but are we just talking defensive player in general or are we alking about position.

As a centerback.. Rafa is one of the best.

A couple of the metnioned are not centerbacks... but more Lt or Rt backs..

Maldini has made a pretty good case for it this year, brilliant is the word really. Chivu and Stam have been great as well. Rafa Marquez is great, he needs to move to a bigger club to get more recognition.

  11. Carlos and Cole good going forward, dodgy defensively. Thuram is the sickest.

    Midwest, the real one.
    watch out for Gabriel Milito

  22. Cobi Jones is hardly a world beater. He probably has nightmares from Stephen Pressley to Igor Stepanovs.

Arsenal's own Ashley Cole. Can't get any better than AC3. Campbell's a good one, too.

First off Rafa Marquez is a non-class punk for his display during the world cup, but anybody that watched that US drubbing of Mexico knows that...

besides the point he needs to be on a larger, big time club before anyone can say he is the best in the world, and from looking at the profiles of a couple of you I am guessing you are just being loyal to your background...nothing wrong with that...but you arent going to hear me say Tony Sanneh is, because he is not, perhaps the best American Defender but not of the level of other big names.....

My vote goes to Nesta, and Hierro. Maldini in his prime was probably one of the best, and I have to toss Rio Ferdinand in there also....
