Credit (as is so often the case) to beineke for the find. The young man is a '93 GK with Pumas U17s. He was born in Ventura, Calif.
"You probably haven’t heard of 19-year-old goalkeeper Bernie Magaña, even though the Southern Californian has already made his debut for Mexican giants Pumas UNAM.... [O]n Sept. 19, Magaña was faced with perhaps the biggest test yet in his nascent career when he started and completed the 90 minutes in Pumas’ 2-1 loss at Club Tijuana in the Copa MX." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-california-keeper-gets-pumas-first-team-shot He played against fellow Southern Californian Joe Benny Corona: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/club-tijuana-unam-pumas/index/spielbericht_2256522.html He joined the 1st team as 3rd GK in early December: http://www.pumascampeon.com/index.php?seccion=noticias&pc=415&idn=7528 The Pumas website still has him listed with the U-20s, though: http://clubpumasunam.com/index.php/portal/sub-20
Magaña was in goal on Sunday as the Pumas U-20s opened the 2013 Apertura with a 2-1 win against Puebla. Magaña is listed on the first team's roster on the league website (one of 3 goal keepers listed). During the 2013 Clausura, he played in 15 games (12 starts) for the Pumas U-20s.
Magaña is still listed on the Pumas first team roster. He made 16 starts for the Pumas U-20s in the Apertura. He has yet to make a gameday squad during the Clausura.
He was in goal today as the Pumas U-20s started their 2014 Apertura campaign off with a 1-1 draw against Queretaro. He made 13 starts and 1 substitute appearance for the Pumas U-20s during the Clausura. He is listed as part of the first team roster (as he has been for a year now).
Magana actually made his pro debut back in the 2012/13 season, making one start in Copa MX. He also made the bench for Copa MX matches frequently that season and this past season, but that one game in 12/13 continues to be his sole appearance.
Some press attention for Magana, who'll be on Pumas' subs bench today in the absence of their usual starter. http://estoenlinea.oem.com.mx/28063-bernabe-magana-ve-cerca-el-debut-con-los-pumas/ http://www.vavel.com/mx/futbol-mexi...nto-a-un-paso-de-ser-de-titular-en-pumas.html
Still there according to this article: Pumas goalkeeper Bernabe Magana -- from Ventura, California -- arrived via one of the university club's five academies in the United States, while Club America's Carlos Jaramillo came through that team's school in San Antonio. http://www.espnfc.us/blog/espn-fc-u...singly-attractive-option-for-american-players
He's still at the club and has made one appearance for the Segunda team this Apertura. I believe he's too old for the U20 league now.
For the 2016-17 season, he's been given the #22 shirt and a place in the first team squad list. He started the opener for the U20s. Only two other keepers are listed in the team, so one might assume that he's the #3 at Pumas now.
Magaña started 12 games for the U20s during the 2016 Apertura. He also made the bench for Pumas' first team once, back in August. He also made the bench for all four of Pumas' CCL games this fall.
Californian goalkeeper Bernabe Magana on the bench for @PumasMX_Eng. He's been patiently waiting for an opportunity. #ligamxeng— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) February 5, 2017
He started for Pumas in their 1-1 draw with Celaya in Copa MX last night. It's his second start for Pumas and his first since a Copa MX game on 9/20/12. That's a long wait!

He has been on the bench for every Liga MX games so far during the Clausura. He has also started both of their Copa MX games to date in the Clausura.
