morales sat the bench the last month of the season chandler played 16 minutes all season(not the same as morris) fabian johnson was terrible this year
I'd love to see all of those guys play against Man City. CCV fared pretty well. even with that "body type".
This is even more true for Bradley who is few months older and on steeper decline. Actually, I think it is 35. Gonzalez will be 34 and he wasnt that good before his decline.
Gonzo was outplayed by Alvarado in the 2015 GC. Not surprising at all that a young player on the upswing would pull away from a guy that plateaued at a young age.
yeah because 2019 roster decisions should be made based on a tournament four years ago by a guy who wants adams with the u20 team.
Timothy Chandler -- played 17 minutes after coming back from injury, on May 5th 2019. After that, he was benched. He's not been part of the friendly vs. Wolfsburg on May 24th. Total: 17 minutes since May 5th 2018. Fabian Johnson -- injured from December 9th, 2017. Returned to action on March 17th 2018. He played for 10 minutes, got injured again. Out until the end of the 17/18 season. In 18/19, he's been injured 3 times, for several games each time. Last time on May 3rd. Total: 468' since the winter break. Last time he played was April 7th. Alfredo Morales -- had a good January and February, got suspended due to yellow card accumulation for the Schalke away game. Fortuna won that one 0-4, looking much better with a new scheme that didn't need Fredo, who got benched, then injured. Total: 704' since the winter break. His playing time has consistently decreased, last two games he played 6' and 2'. Jordan Morris -- a guy I don't rate, BTW. Injured all 2018. Came back this season, bagged two against Cinci and one against the Fire. He got quickly figured out and only scored once more, so after a third of the MLS season he has 4 goals. Injured since May 16th. Total: 979' since January. Jozy Altidore -- Injured since last October, was still not ready for the first game of the season. Since then his time increased and managed to score in every game in March/first half of April. He's been injured twice more, but played since May 18th. Total: 615' since January. I'd say the one with no case at all is Chandler. The rest are iffy, with Johnson being the iffiest and Morris the more deserving of the call, although I don't rate him and frankly wouldn't miss him.
This is fantastic! I have seen people claim that they think Trapp is above the Ralston line. We have seen enough of him clearly being in over his head to know that isnt a certainty. I would have thought we would have learned from the 2006 cycle, but apparently not. I think the Ralston LINE has become a TRAPP. At least Steve was a supporting player. WTF is in one of the most dangerous parts of the field.
I know everyone focuses on the T&T game, but go watch the goal at Honduras. If that doesnt bother you, go watch his effort on the first goal at CR. His performances in the Hex were the worst of any CB ever.
So once again, we're not comparing strength of league or quality of competition. We are only comparing minutes played. Pulisic has 450 minutes played since January. That's an iffy case, just like Johnson, and he should be replaced by Morales? This is a bizarre way to make points...
I really can’t disagree with you. I don’t think that Trapp being terrible equates to he should be replaced by Morales; there’s got to be something in between bad and more bad.
i dont think anyone cares about morales, i think they care that bradley/trapp are absolute, mortal locks. same for chandler. people shit on yedlin for reasons i cant even comprehend and they know the only rb who is even remotely close to his level has been, very occasionally, only for club/never for country is chandler. and with johnson it just feels like we never got the best out of him somehow. not enough games, never in the position we wanted/needed him to be at any given time. but at this point its all just reactions to choosing lesser players over them. if adams were in the spot he should be and bradley was, i dont know, at a weekly old timers poker game with besler and bedoya, if trapp was realistically down in the mix with roldan, or nagby then no one would be talking about morales. a roster has room for 6 cm, but we only get four. bradley and trapp are more set in stone than mckennie and adams and we all see that. is it even possible to be surprised that fabian at lb sounds better to anyone outisde of the ussf than tim freaking ream? daniel lovitz!? we have a rb thats been a starter for a prem team, a year in the championship, helped get them back up and stay there (all at a level higher than chandler, younger, healthier) and STILL, as a fanbase, dont appreciate him nearly enough. that ones on us. even fit you hear calls for cannon, or lima, or whoever. adams only clouds that coversation, cause he shouldnt be a part of it. the only reasonable alternative is this make-believe version of timmy chandler people have in their head cause yedlins not here to complain about. put lima, or cannon our there in a real match and see what happens. 80% of our complaints, as a fanbase, are due to the self-inflicted injuries, the hadicap, us soccer insists on (blah blah experience, mls, whatever). an even higher percentage of talk about the "germericans" is just a side effect of that.

I don't get the obsession with having a guy who isn't especially good at defense playing so close to our goal. I'd rather have a real DM there and let another guy handle the passing.i can't imagine a couple of long passes a game are any more valuable than a couple of interceptions or tackles that start counters.

Can someone please tell me why our Mens national team looks like a MLS roster. Why did we hire another Bruce Arena? Our European players young and old arent even on this Gold cup roster. We will never be a force with this mentality. Please US federation wake up
Please tell me why we have so many MLS players on this Gold cup roster. Bruce Arena 2.0. I will no longer support this team if we cant play the proper players.
those roster breakdowns need comment though. the first, the gold cup roster- i just think counting players in leagues theyve yet to play in is questionable, and it looks like you have have all loaness with their loan teams. so maybe more clarification than comment. but the second- the u20 team- is useless (no offense). have those non-mls players (other than weah, who has in a league other than the parent club/league list listed) played a thousand first minutes in the leagues listed combined? theyre all in academy/youth teams. again- it needs quite a bit of comment cause youre just listing names and leagues in inconsistent (between the two) ways with no context. you can make any argument in any direction with that.
Ok let me ask you these questions: Is MLS or Liga MX a better league? Can you name any American or Mexican player in the past decade to get more than 50 caps only playing in MLS or Liga MX? Can you imagine either the United States OR Mexico advancing out of the group stage of a World Cup with over 10 players over the age of 27 playing domestically? What is the logic in calling in a roster primarily composed of either a generation that failed to qualify for two consecutive Olympics (looking at 24-29 year old MLSers) AND one World Cup (that includes anyone in the pool basically 23 and older)? Does it make any sense that our best U-20 team has a 50/50 split but the team we are putting forward to try and win our Continental Competition and build a team to qualify for the next World Cup in the coming years is comprised of 2/3 of players based in the MLS with only one player under 23 based in the MLS?
The problem is not only the number of MLS players on the roster, it is that they are also the wrong MLS players. It sure seems like Nepotism Gregg does not know WTF he is doing.
I wonder if part of the reason for bringing in Omar was to get him on the field versus Trinidad & Tobago, as part of a "redemption" storyline. Not saying that's the main reason they brought him in - but maybe that romanticism was a consideration.
