The Swiss Super League kicks off tomorrow so I figured it's time for a new thread. Here's the upcoming schedule including a few friendlies and the Trophée des Champions (i.e. French Super Cup). Kickoff times = EST. 7/22 10:00AM Watford v Eibar beIN SPORTS en Español 01:00PM Young Boys v Basel beIN SPORTS CONNECT USA 06:00PM New York Cosmos v Valencia beIN SPORTS USA 7/23 10:00AM Grasshopper vs Zürich beIN SPORTS CONNECT USA 7/28 12:30PM Werder Bremen v West Ham United beIN SPORTS USA 7/29 10:00AM Borussia Mönchengladbach v Málaga beIN SPORTS CONNECT USA 03:00PM Monaco v Paris Saint-Germain beIN SPORTS USA
With Neymar's possible move to PSG, I wonder if that' going to impact beIN's pecking order, especially if PSG goes head to head against a Barcelona or Real game. After all, PSG are owned by Qatar, and last year were #3 team on beIN's hierarchy of teams.
Even if PSG double their ratings due to Neymar, they would get about 10% of the viewership an average Barcelona match receives. They would have to buy Messi as well to make a difference. Ligue-1 simply doesn't have any branding power - especially compared to La Liga. I thought AS Monaco's rise and Balotteli's exploits at Nice would bring some interest to the league but the numbers did not reflect that last season. beIN will continue showcasing the 2 Spanish giants as they really are, by far, their only bread & butter. My Verizon guide is showing Monaco-Toulouse on beIN for Aug 4th, the first major European league day of the season. FRENCH LIGUE 1 SOCCER Time: Aug 4 Friday, 2:40 PM From Louis II Stadium in Fontvieille, Monaco. No clear evidence of what they'll be showing the rest of the weekend.
Looks like (in terms of live matches): Saturday 11:00ET: PSG v Amiens (BeIN) 14:00ET: Lyon v Strasbourg (beIN2) 14:00ET: St. Etienne v Nice (beIN8) 14:00ET: Metz v Guingamp (beIN9) Sunday 9:00ET: Lille v Nantes (beIN2) 11:00ET: Angers v Bordeaux (beIN3) 15:00ET: Marseille v Dijon (beIN)
beIN CONNECT will have the Johan Cruyff Shield (Dutch Super Cup) on Saturday: 8/5 11:45AM ET Feyenoord v Vitesse
Does beIN have the rights to Spanish supercup? Edit: I see Espn had it last year. It probably explains why they went all out in Miami as they play twice in a couple of weeks.
Nope. ESPN has the rights. Both legs on ESPN Deportes. English-language likely limited to espn3 but that could change... SA www.soccertvblog.com
I'm confident it will end up on ESPN or ESPN2 after the way they covered it at ICC and the numbers they produced.
I have to say that i have not used connect on a PC in a while. I see they have done some major changes. I can now use it on both my laptops using FIrefox which is cool. The only thing that was annoying was the little pop up that said to turn off my Adblocker. I turned it off and it still came up. I had to reload the browsers three or four times and make sure Adblocks of all sorts were turned off even in my anti-virus. But since I rarely use Firefox to actually browse I guess it is okay. Much better than last season when I could only use internet explorer and only on one of my PCS.
Anyone else getting playback error messages on some beIN connect channels, but not others? Took a few chrome restarts but got PSG v Amiens working this morning, then had Dutch Supercup working for first 60 mins. Now getting playback error on beIN 6, but beIN 4(Lugano v Zurich) and other connect channels work fine.
If anyone would like to keep score of how often this happens this season, bein already cocked up their coverage of the lyon-strasbourg today. Just never aired it. They do this all the time. They suck. Mickey mouse operation all the way.
Amateurs. At this point I'd like to see all their properties end up on espn3. I'd even pay extra for it.
I got the error messages this morning too which was annoying. After troubleshooting a bit it seems like the best thing to do is to just reload the webpage once you select a different channel. Edit**** Must have been a fluke thing cause I am getting the messages again...
Looking at that schedule one might ask, what was teh main beIN channel showing at 14h00 ET on Saturday? Yup, a replay of the Neymar-less PSG match! That's almost sad. Anyway, looks like Neymar's debut match overlaps the clasico super-cup. Sucks for beIN as that will probably hurt their ratings big time!
A weird/interesting note: On Real Madrid tv Channel 2 they sometimes broadcast Movies with Spanish dubbed audio. The other day they had on the Three Musketeers from the 90s. I was not expecting that. Crazy stuff.
Now that Connect is more accessible through Roku & other methods, curiously BeIN has exactly ZERO soccer matches scheduled this weekend on it. No Ligue 1 (they're showing a 90 in 60 of Nice-Troyes on the main channel, but no stream of the full match), no Swiss league, no nothin'. The schedule on their site shows other sporting events on the Connect channels, so it's not a matter of the schedule not being ready yet. I don't know if they'll update this between now and the weekend, but this is another head-scratcher from these clowns.

What was a normal audience for a PSG match last season? This match went head-to-head with el clasico super cup so that probably didn't help.
That's a good audience for Ligue 1 on beIN. Last season's opener: Prob not hard to beat last year's (Fri. match)8/12/16LIGUE 1 BEIN SPORT - 1:55 PM-4:00 PM -- 11k BEIN ESPANOL - 1:55 PM-3:57 PM -- 5k— Kevin | kotensixtysix.bsky.social (@koTenSixtySix) August 14, 2017 Not often that Ligue 1 gets similar Sunday air-time
Yeah, guess not. Especially a Sunday with so little going on in the US sports scene. Maybe the clasico even helped ratings (people tuning in to BeIN expecting to find the clasico there or watching the first-half of PSG before switching to the clasico)
