A couple of catchup games were played last night, league properly resumes on Tuesday ABDULRAHMAN Mubarak registered a brace to help lift Riffa to a 2-0 victory over Al Hala last night in their Bahrain First Division Soccer League match played at the National Stadium. Mubarak scored on either side of half-time to lead his team to the win. He opened his account in the ninth minute, and it was enough to give Riffa the one-goal advantage at the break. Mubarak continued his fine form after the re-start, finding the net once more in the 58th to double their lead and virtually secure the victory. The result marked Riffa's first triumph after only two games so far in this year's league competition. They had previously lost their only other match. Hala suffered their maiden defeat after beginning their campaign with three successive draws. Riffa are ranked sixth with three points, not far ahead of Hala who are in eighth also on three markers. In last night's other match, struggling sides Al Najma and Al Hidd played to a 1-1 stalemate. Ismail Mohammed gave Hidd the lead just after the half-hour mark. Mohammed Abdulaziz replied for Najma 10 minutes into the second half. Both sides tried to find the equaliser over the remainder of the contest, but they each came up short. Both Najma and Hidd came away with their third deadlock of the season. They remained tied with Riffa and Hala on three points apiece. http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/NewsDetails.aspx?storyid=297256

It's been a funn old campaign in Bahrain. Stop start, stop start. *It would appear that Malkiya and Al Shabab have withdrawn although they do still stand in many league tables found on various websites, including FIFA's. *If they don't play their games, and i'll strongly say they won't, then we are down to a 14 game campaign. *The 2nd Division seems to have gone on hold. Nothing seems to be happening. But I'd be tempted to say that both divisions could come together as one again next campaign. It's not unusual for this to happen in Bahrain. *In the GCC, Al Riffa have to beat Al Shabab of the UAE in their final game o qualify for the next stage. *On the other hand, Al Ahli withdrew from the competition.
