"He's born and bred in Germany, so we know we can hit the long-ball" And chicks dig the longball. I love JJ to MLS finally getting done. You take the leader of the current crop (& ongoing wave) of German dual nationals & bring his talent and experience into the domestic league. Hopefully, it will be the harbinger of dual nationals moving back & forth from abroad to MLS seamlessly. Romain Gall a good model on the other end of the experience spectrum.
Hope i'm not going off topic again. But, how much do you think it would raise the standard of MLS if every American player in Europe whose not playing in a top four league came to MLS?
Mls doesn't yet have the money to stock the league with good players from top to bottom of Each squad. Very happy to see the beginning of that effort though. Hopefully the days of American kids playing for mediocre European clubs is drawing to and end.
Not much, there are only a handful of non top 4 league players that would be above par in MLS. Aron, Bedoya, MiX, Danny Williams, Shea, Agudelo, Lichaj maybe a couple others.
I'd add to that Tim Ream, Jon Spector, Will Packwood, Zak Whitbread, Duane Holmes, Emerson Hyndman, Terrence Boyd, Rubio Rubin, Sacha Kljestan, Josh Gatt, Bobby Wood. That's not including the Americans playing in Mexico. But I agree with Real Corona. MLS doesn't have the money yet.
I forgot Ream and Sasha. I will give you Boyd, but the others really im not sold on. Holmes is young, but can't find regular playing time in the Championship. Hyndman had played one or two first team matches for a Championship team. Rubin the same in the Eredivisie too early to tell. Gatt has had bright moments in Norway, but Norway isn't a step up from MLS and he has been hurt too much to establish himself as quality player. Whitbread injured to much to be a factor. Wood, Packwood and Seb Hines I have not seen them play. Even if you put a few of those players along with the ones I listed, you only improve half of the teams in MLS by 1 player. I think MLS improves in quality when the are successful in attracting national team quality players from all over the Americas. Top tier players from Concacaf and role players from South America. This is an area where Liga MX tops MLS.
The all have the quality to play and start in MLS. I don't disagree with you about attracting players. But MLS also improves in quality when American players see MLS as more of a stepping stone to a top four league than the lesser leagues in Europe.
Everybody gets to say their goodbyes. How about we do it musically? I think we already have a hemi-demi YA tradition of doing that. See you stateside, Jermaine. Good luck with the new club.
Shake off the hangover JJ and look who is on the Revs calendar this Saturday at 5pm ET. Schalke plays FC Hollywood and then maybe JJ90 v MB90! On my, oh my, my Saturday is made. with apologies to Robert Nesta Marley for butchering his lyrics, my first final thread thought: I mean it when I analyze the stench To me it makes a lot of sense How the dreadlock rasta was the buffalo soldier And he was taken from Germany, brought to America Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival but instead, I went with: See you guys in the PBP threads.
Interesting thoughts by Revs President Bilello on if Jones moves the needle: "USMNT really moved fans...real famous guy... everyone knows Jermaine Jones especially if you are a USMNT fan... thought the USMNT was the talk of the WC and Jones was the best player on the USMNT ... wanted a USMNT player... wanted to associate with and e connected to the USMNT" http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/video/2014/08/25/bilello-jermaine-jones
Bob Kraft on Jermaine Jones: "I think he'll make a great addition to this team. I'm told he's a big name player and very popular and I can't wait to see him in action. It's a shame he wasn't with the guys most of training camp but hopefully he and Brady can get on the same page quickly and start scoring points; but I trust Bill and our coordinators when it comes to these things and know the offense will be clicking in no time."
Sounds like Bob is unaware that Jones is a Middle Linebacker. He seems to think that JJ is a Tight End??
Everywhere online has him listed around 6ft tall and 180lbs so realistically you're looking at WR (I'd put him in the slot cause you know he wouldn't complain about going across the middle) on offense or a DB position on defense; though ideally for either he'd need to gain at least 10 more pounds.
It sounds like Kraft has no idea who Jones is, or anything about soccer in general. If he's hoping Jones will "score points" for his team he'll probably be a bit disappointed. I'm sure he'll score more than he normally does but no one is buying Jones for goals.
