Italy leading Luxembourg 2-0 at the half. Kean subbed off at halftime and remains in the locker room. Commentators think that it's some punishment
I know it's not necessarily top tier competition, but the results lately on both the youth and senior level are encouraging.
It should be noticed the under 21 team played poorly in holding the Irish Republic 0:0 in Dublin last Thursday evening. It looks like a mediocre squad of players.
I dunno , I'm just glad that ( for the men's) England didn't pass us in unbeaten qualifiers . Czechs snapped it .
looks like the Irish are the team to beat in that group. before their game with Italy they collected 3 wins on the bounce. So we'll see as qualifying plays out how the Azzurrini do
How about 17 year old Sebastiano Esposito? He came on against Borussia Dortmund for Romelu Lukaku becaming the first player born in 2002 and the youngest ever for the club, to feature in a Champions League game, second in the European competitions after Giuseppe Bergomi! He hasn't even played a Serie A match yet and he made a difference by coming on an causing a PK! This is what we need more of! LARGO AI GIOVANI!
He was included then taken off when Alexis Sanchez got hurt as Inter need him and this won’t release him.
Historically and per FIFA rules, the club has to release the player for a sanctioned WC tournament. Unless they changed another rule...
Yeah I don't know if there's maybe a different rule for the youth teams. The U18 Italy manager talked about it tho........said he was disappointed in the decision because Esposito has been a leader on the team for the last two years and such. But he was also grateful because I think there's other players from Inter that they did release for this. EDIT: Yep there's 5 Inter players on this team.
The tournament was hosted by Brazil so it is understandable that they look good. They can't lose to Germany 1-7 because they didn't make it to the finals….
Gnonto had a great chance with about 15 minutes to go with a chance to cut the lead, but was stopped.
I remember Riccardo Sottil's dad, Andrea Sottil who played for various Serie A teams. Nice too see him following the footsteps of his father.
Good win today. If they just take care of business against Ireland at home later on in this thing they should top the group.
There are two games against Sweden and a trip to Iceland as well. Iceland hit the post at 0-0 in an even first half, but Italy controlled most of the second half.
I'm actually taking a trip to Iceland next October..........I'm tempted to schedule it around that game and check them out lol
