Not an original name but a new tournament - it's scheduled for 28 Feb - 6 March 2019 in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. It'll be a round robin for four teams, who've all qualified for the WWC 2019 - Australia, South Korea, Argentina and New Zealand. - https://thewomensgame.com/news/australia-to-host-cup-of-nations-517022 (Archived) The tournament, to be played in late-summer in the southern hemisphere, was confirmed today: Australia are playing the U.S. in April 2019. Other tournaments happening elsewhere at the same time - the Algarve Cup 2019, Pinatar Cup, Cyprus Cup, and She Believes Cup. Australia in World Cup action in 2015 (IQRemix, cc-by-sa)

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post news in or if it's been reported elsewhere but this sure seems less than ideal for the Matildas! https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/stajcic-sacked-as-matildas-boss
Thanks @soccermuse! There's an Australia team thread here - https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/the-matildas-thread-r.625716/page-9 It's strange timing to sack the coach - I hadn't realized Australia were having problems. (Off-field troubles, apparently.) Whoever the new manager is, they'll have some time to prepare for the WWC with this tournament, and presumably several extra games.

It's so weird to see Upper Hutt City appear alongside lesser minor clubs like Chelsea and NC Courage The German-based players Moore and Emma Rolston talked about life in the Bundesliga and the bleak city - interview def not sponsored by Duisburg tourist board: - https://www.newsroom.co.nz/@lockerr...l-ferns-pair-find-light-in-german-citys-gloom
Wow, Ji So-Yun is considered a FW these days? I always looked at her as the quintessential Central Midfielder, but I do admit I didn't watch her play at Chelsea recently...
The tournament's kicked off in west Sydney: Argentina v South Korea is live now on FFA channel 'MyFootball', but geoblocked in Australia & NZ (@el-capitano!), where Foxtel/Sky have the rights. Australia v New Zealand is live later at 08:30 GMT, with a similar livestream – Australian TV is SBS Viceland from 7pm AET. Sam Kerr will be Australia's captain. A preview article today, paraphrased "it's time for the Matildas to let the football do the talking", and the football says.... ???
Well, Korea's gonna win this I reckon bold prediction with 10 minutes to go. @chook90 and @ChaDuRi671, how do you feel? Did you ever stop believing?
here's the full game replay what impresses me is that this might be most injury free squad in a long time(only notable missing is Gorry) Australia vs. New Zealand - 28 February 2019 - Women Soccerway hopefully they can stay that way!
This is a match that I would like to see played in an Oceanian WWC qualifier, instead of in a friendly...
This is why I've always been hesitant to put much faith in ARG in the C'BOL tournaments... They can sometimes put good results together against other American (hemisphere) teams, but are prone to massive collapses like this against further-flung teams. Really wish COL hadn't choked that first match of the championship group. I didn't expect ARG to get out of group D, and this massively reinforces that thought.
I hope these words won't come back haunting me, but my idea is that, in a group with England, Japan and Scotland, Argentina will be literally butchered, Banini or not. A simple Scotland team, guided by Kim Little and fuelled by good youngsters like Cuthbert, should be enough to spell doom for Argentina.
I'd add Chloe Logarzo to that list of important missing players. Its only a minor ankle knock for her luckily.
do to Oceanian's small population it probably would mean only 1 team would be able to qualify. Would that be fair to #19 ranked New Zealand? I mean there's several way lower teams that got to qualify like #20 Scotland, #29 Thailand, #36 Argentina, #39 Nigeria & #53 Jamaica watching the full game, got to mention that they definitely played more of a wide game than under Staj. Carpenter & Cately were running in unison down field on each of the flanks looking for outlet pass. but with those two so much upfield, got to worry that the defense was stretched a bit thin, as even Kennedy & Polkinhorne played high. All they had to worried about is the lone striker, Gregorus, but other NT's will bring a lot more fire power to the game ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- just noticed the same youtuber posted the other game as well
Today: Match 2 livestream/video on MyFootball, except AUS/NZ New Zealand v Argentina (05:00 GMT) Australia v South Korea (08:00 GMT) - Foxtel/Sky live, SBS 12:30pm Someone posted that it was good 3 of these 4 countries are neighbours, which is, er, hmm. Travelling from Seoul to Sydney or Melbourne it's over 8000km - the same distance as the Cyprus Cup for Korea.
