I've used mine to get signed game worn jersey's in past season's (Noguiera, and Wenger). Also to attend a Town Hall with Earnie last season.
I may be getting credit I'm not due. They've added a few new "voices". Some still trying to find their way. He's pretty disillusioned with how the club was going. I think most were willing to wait and see and hope for the best with Earnie. That he could make up for the other shortcomings. That's a lot to overcome.
Jay Responds http://www.phillysoccerpage.net/2017/05/04/an-open-response-from-jay-sugarman/ Dear Dan: Let me first thank you for your support of the Union and the work you do at PSP. Neither goes unnoticed. The Union is a big part of my life and I am deeply appreciative of the fans who have made it part of theirs. Now to the heart of the matter. Here’s what we clearly agree on — the Union have not come close to fulfilling their potential on the field and the results are not acceptable. Like every serious Union fan, I lose a little bit of my being when we lose or play poorly. On the other hand, a good win makes everything a little better and watching the team play together and flow up and down the field is pretty great. We have struggled way more than I expected, not just this year but for too much of our first seven years. There have been lots of reasons, a great many of which you have ably pointed out over the years. Most I have tried to fix, making plenty of mistakes along the way and perhaps not moving as quickly as some hoped, but with a clear sense that by making improvements we would get progressively better each year. But if we aren’t progressing, then ultimately, I am responsible. I accept the criticism and know it comes from a fan base that wants a team it can be proud of. It’s fair and it’s my job to fix it. Here’s the thing. We have and will keep investing to make the team better. It’s been $5 to $10 million per year, every year, so far. We need to create environments for our fans, our players and employees that will be a foundation for excellence and long term success. Most of it has to be built from scratch. We will keep moving forward in steps, making improvements for both the short term and the long term. While some things are not possible, providing Earnie and our technical staff the money needed to build a cohesive team with sufficient firepower to win an MLS Cup is possible and he would not have come without that commitment from ownership. So where do we go from here? The league is getting better so we have to get better. Investments already made need to pay off and investments made going forward, including new DP’s, have to be productive. Everyone in the organization and on the field needs to play their role well, with passion and a commitment to be better. I promise to do the same. Sincerely, Jay
Am I supposed to be impressed that he spends $5-10 million annually when several teams spend that much on a single player? Also, his grammar is shit.
"The league is getting better, so we have to get better" thinking is exactly the wrong mentality to have. You want to win the disillusioned fans back? The one's who've done their part and thrown cash into this club on the tickets, the new jersey, the whatever--despite the miserable loserdom they've been subjected to? Be on the forefront of change, and not a two-step-behind reactionary. Otherwise you'll keep being the same schmuck you've always been who couldn't keep up with the Joneses. But, yes, thanks for responding. Mighty big of you.
We must do better. blah blah blah. I must do better. blah blah blah. We are trying our best. There is nothing of any substance in that letter that speaks to getting better, or steps being made to do so.
If we can't get Mark Cuban, how about Floyd Mayweather? Just had a great meeting with @MagicJohnson. It's about time for me to buy an NBA team...https://t.co/Z9BZbeznxd pic.twitter.com/zkfwKIgJIY— Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather) May 4, 2017
Just more obfuscation. I've spent x.......and MLS has spent Y and Z. I don't care who your GM is. If you don't have a real scouting staff, you can't find players abroad by talking to contacts "who knew a guy who knew a guy"....... Stewart doesn't know MLS. Probably doesn't trust himself not to get fleeced in any deal within the league he might like to make. He trusted guys who are the walking definition of incompetent for guidance, and they will all pay for that indiscretion. Floyd? We're the Moneyball team, not the Money team.
Also, that 5-10 mil is not on the field. He includes everything except pave parking lots since there are non. But that includes all investments including the academy, the training facility and the sodded parking lot called a practice field.
