McDermott stated at the latest town hall that secondary shirt sponsor branding could possibly be one within the primary sponsor's umbrella ... a subsidiary, more or less. But, considering the source, take with a grain of salt. I thought a company like SYNYGY would make for good synergy with the Union, seeing as they - until very recently - occupied office space in the same building. However, they up and moved out pretty much overnight, defaulting on their lease, relocated to Center City, and are now known as Optymyze.
Doubt it’s ABC, main ops are down in Frisco now and the margins they deal in are ridiculously small, like 1-2%. Total volume business. Campbell’s has a number of financial issues so they’re out too. I also don’t think Comcast will do it. There’s no need for them to do it and they have their own sports properties. Lincoln has the stadium deal. GSK, SAP, Vanguard, and Subaru would be the best targets IMO but I think we’re sticking with Bimbo.
I just finished watching the good Netflix documentary about Sunderland's relegation season last year, and there were plenty of Union-type themes on display - e.g. can't afford to buy players so rely upon untested academy products, losing a passionate fan base, etc. It was fascinating to see how the arrival of a new owner with fresh cash and a more aggressive attitude immediately injected life and competitiveness into the club. If only...
Another thought is Evonik. They sponsor Dortmund and have a plant near Lot A. I look forward to getting free Soda Ash samples.
AKA, the club Pulisic will, this summer, have formerly played for. I wonder how the Union are going to try and take credit for the fact that the Hershey, PA native will be playing in the English top flight ...
Evonik also owns a 9% stake in BVB as well. https://www.breakingviews.com/considered-view/evonik-in-400-mln-soccer-deal-it-doesnt-need/
Subaru would be interesting as Cherry Hill is the America’s HQ for them. They mostly sponsor rally races, skiing and outdoor stuff that you’d associate directly with their brand. They’ve been a sponsor of random stuff like Welsh rugby and Irish GAA and they dipped their toe in MLS waters with the Rocky Mtn Cup and everyone freaked. There really aren’t many national firms associated with Philly. Aramark never would sponsor anything but United Way. The Sports stadium business is really low margin and since they’ve gone public again I’m not sure what the direction is. They’ve spent a lot on their new building on the river too. Vanguard would be the obvious play, because their whole brand is “we’re cheaper than the competition “ and if that ain’t a match made in heaven I don’t know what is. AstraZeneca had some tough years but still has a sizable operation I think in Wilmington and sponsor racing.
Total agreement here. Though Aramark does much more then just stadium concessions. Their stock price has been............less than stellar. I doubt that their investors would rubber stamp a sponsorship deal that would lose them more money then it would bring them in. Not to mention that Aramark's business is managed services, and they don't have a direct to consumer product. That said, IF, and this is a BIG IF, they could have their name on one of the big stadiums in the area, they might go for that. It would more likely be for an American Football Stadium though, as most of the executives are big NFL fans.
Rough there? I interviewed a few years ago but decided to stay put. Never sure if that was the right call.
I was in Legal before they went public again and loved it. Work for a Big4 now and the culture is so mercenary.
Those were good days..............since they went public, culture is very mercenary there now, at least it was a year or so ago.
Bowling industry must be having some rough days. Hmm Bimbo started sponsoring the Union in 2011. Any correlation?
Still cant believe this cheap piece of poop is on the MLS expansion committee. This should be reserved for owners invested in moving the league forward, not capitalizing on it.
