Atlanta has been awarded 10 penalty kicks. The other MLS clubs average exactly 2.5, with Toronto FC having the second most attempts with 6. Atlanta is almost at 11 attempts, which is what Portland and Toronto FC led 2017 with. Atlanta is on pace to attempt 21 penalty kicks, and the MLS record for one club in a year is 2012.

Another component of the horrible screw-job AUFC is getting from the referees.

Why is this surprising when you have a flopper like Almiron on the roster?

How many of those pk’s are Home versus Away?
I think the fans at Atlanta influence the calls, or maybe make opponents play rashly or make mistakes

I'd be curious how much of that is due to the attacking style and pressure. ie: Do they get it into the box more often? Cause even if there is a percentage of error here that's still a high number.

Likewise I'd be curious how many they've given up, because I know they've surrendered a few at home, as well.

While it's likely a statistical aberration, it's still interesting. Historically speaking, penalties for both teams and referees can be awfully streaky. I can pull up a bunch of PK for and against data later tonight if anyone is interested. :)

Unfortunately MLS doesn't provide that information, and penalty kicks attempted and made are not a line in box scores. Goals specify if they are penalty kicks, but finding failed penalty kicks is harder. I went to https://www.flashscore.com/team/atlanta-united/EPngUvhk/results/ and opened the pages for their games. Unfortunately, I counted 6 attempts at home and 3 attempts away, which doesn't match the 10 attempts MLS says.

Makes some anecdotal sense that teams with highly technical fwds (ATL and TFC) would earn a lot of PKs, I guess.

    1) How is 2,012 PKs in one season even possible?!?

    2) Atlanta United is the new DC United.

Sorry. The record for attempts is 12 by Vancouver in 2014.

What's your source for that? According to this Transfermarkt Vancouver had 11 PKs in 2014 and made 10 of them.
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/major...Elfmeter/wettbewerb/MLS1/plus/?saison_id=2013

Yes, the page string says 2013 but click and it shows the 214 data. I think it is because MLS does not have a season that spans 2 years. I also know that third-party sources for MLS stats are not always correct so Transfermarkt could be wrong, which is why I'd like to know your source.

With the PK last night in Philadelphia, Atlanta now has 11 for the year. They have had 3 awarded against them for a +8. The Crew and Galaxy are +5. Toronto has the next highest PKs taken at 7 and are +4.

I've also got 12 for Vancouver in 2014 FWIW.
