This thread will house a more general discussion of Freddy Adu's club career. Unlike the news and updates only thread, a broader range of topics will be allowed here. 1. Posters should still confine themselves to the Terms of Service they agreed to when they joined the site, and trolling will not be allowed. However, if you are interested only in knowing what's going on right now with Freddy's career, then you should check the other thread. 2. If you find yourself making an argument you've already made before in a different Adu-related thread, then perhaps it would be better to refrain. 3. The old general discussion thread is here. 4. Like the title of this thread? Then rep Reignking's post, because it was his idea.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Here is the general information from the previous thread. 1. There was some discussion regarding why the trial/loan to Sion did not work out. He had a swollen toe, perhaps some of the older issues or the wrong skill fit for the club were all suggested. 2. A considerable amount of frustration was expended regarding his inability to hook up with a new club. 3. He apparently remains training (on his own) in Greece. 4. He played a practice match, with the Aris A team, against the Aris reserves. 5. There was discussion that he might be accepted back into Aris following this. The Greek posters seemed to believe this was not a possibility. 6. Many posters mention that a lot of young players have trouble getting started in Europe. His situation, though appearing a bit dire to some of us, is not all that unusual. 7. The good news is that he continues to draw a healthy salary from his first contract with Benefica. 8. There was the usual discussion about him returning to MLS. An article linking him to the LA Galaxy was presented. Of course, MLS is in midseason and this might make his introduction a challenge. 9. There was discussion that his game might be a match for the Mexican league. Poor defense and more time to play the ball were mentioned. 10. Aris has started their season and Freddy still appears to be on the outside looking in. 11. What will happen to Freddy Adu and how will these "lost years" ultimately affect his career?
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread 12. European transfer window ends at 31 August. Will he still be an Aris player?
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread 13. Freddy sucks and is not worthy to play for Lutheran High School's soccer team. 14. He is still young and has a bright future. I kid. *Subscribe*
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Do you know if they're actively trying to move him?
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread I just binned two snarky posts that made no attempt at analysis. If all you want to do is chortle about Adu's current predicament, do so up your sleeve, not in this thread. Just because this is a general discussion thread does not mean we'll allow trolling.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Whole team lives for tomorrow's game. Nothing is heard about Adu after he played the training match. We can propably hear some news after Austria's match. Although a week left for transfers.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread LOL. I wasn't trying to troll. The picture I posted was a joke in reference to the Aris-ted Development title of this thread. The person who Freddy's head is pasted on is Gob from the show. Personally I hope that Freddy finds a club soon and does well. Again I wasn't trying to troll, just thought since this was the general discussion thread, I could post something humorous that had to do with the thread title. It was a joke.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Fair enough. I'm afraid I've developed a hair trigger when it comes to these Adu threads and as a result was unfair. I apologize.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread No problem, I understand. These threads can get pretty ridiculous.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Yes! let's get the arrested development references going! we can just cirsumvent bungadiri's authority. the old reach around.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread what analysis can be made dude is sitting at home training in his backyard. Honestly his best bet is to return to the mls...but his pride would be hurt of course. After seeing players like J.Demerit make it ..i could care less about these guys with a wrongful sense of entitlement.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread The next time Freddy trains with Aris, we should have one of the players punch him in the balls and say, "Now next time you go on loan and don't play and don't get punched in the balls, it won't suck as much!"
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Didn't you just choose an example who's more in limbo than Freddy?
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread He is not above returning to the mls.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread He is as long as benfica is playing him 1 million a year for 1.5 more years.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread And some think we should blame him for wanting to honor his contract? Say what you want about Freddy... he was not overly poor with Aris on the pitch...off the pitch is obviously another story.... the guy wants to play somewhere...His contract is what is holding that up but if any of you smart a$$es can honestly sit here and tell me that you would not collect a million+ for doing basically nothing for 1 year but training on your own then I will openly apologize... The guy has not lost everything here... he is just in a bad bad contract for and on all sides.... He is young enough to find a good situation after this fiasco ends. Watch the youtubes from 2008....the kid still has talent... I for one just hope his training is involving a speed coach who is teaching him how to explode out of moves and cuts like he seemed capable of 3 years ago... Cut the weights out and get back to being quick as a cat...
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread At this point I doubt Adu can get any quicker.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread Any athlete can increase their quickness through speed training and plyometrics... ask Jerry Rice who was very slow coming out of college and he worked and worked to increase his speed and quickness... Adu needs to start doing speed rope, box drills, shuttle runs etc... lay off the bench press and squats
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread but Jerry was only 22 when he came out of college.
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread So Freddy should start this program next summer? or in 2003....
Re: Aris-ted Development: the Freddy Adu general discussion thread the question is, would any of us accept $1 million for a year (much less after taxes) to train on our own for that year if that also meant that you might permanently impair your future career and future earnings? there's a reasonable point of view that says that Adu might never have the chance to make this much again, so he should take it and earn that $1MM no matter what. there's another reasonable point of view that suggests that every year he loses does serious harm to his future career, taking the money this year instead of taking a huge pay hit to play is actually penny wise and pound foolish, and that his long term needs might best be met by figuring out how to get back on the field and re-invigorate his game ASAP to get himself back in the shop window and replace what might be a current common negative view of coaches about his ability and talent.
