Argentina take on Colombia tomorrow, July 6th, 2011 @ 8:45PM EST in Santa Fe, Argentina. This is turning out to be a key match for the Albiceleste after their poor showing against Bolivia. Seems like all giants of South America - including Uruguay and Brazil have drawn their opening games. This takes some of the psychological pressure off Argentina – but it still happens to be a must win game.

Rumors emanating from the training camp suggest Sergio Batista will be making a couple of changes to the starting line up. Marcos Rojo will be replaced by Pablo Zabaleta. Upfront the wayward Lavezzi is set to lose his place to the very talented Sergio Aguero. There have also been rumors of Pastore coming on in the second half for either Aguero or Tevez. This is the rumored starting formation:
    ———– Sergio Romero
    Zanetti — Burdisso — Milito — Zabaleta
    – — – — Mascherano — Cambiasso
    – — – — – — – Banega
    Aguero — Messi — Tevez

Costa Rica’s Argentine coach – Ricardo La Volpe has also proclaimed that Argentina are not a team after their performance against Bolivia. I for one disagree. They are a team, they gelled pretty decently in the first half. It will take some time for the team to hit their stride. What are are your thoughts about the formation above? Does Pastore deserve a starting berth? Do we really need three ball winners in the middle of the park? Feel free to comment and express your thoughts below.

    Prediction:

Colombia play a tight 4-1-4-1, with Falcao leading the line. Expect Colombia to attack flanks, especially on counters. This will be a hard fought game and Argentina will need to retain possession in order to control the game. The midfield will face a tough battle and will have to help out the defence and get the ball to the forwards. If Banega cannot drive forward, Messi, Tevez and Aguero/Lavezzi will be starved of the ball and will have to drop deeper to get the ball. This will lead to erratic individual play later in the game.
    If Argentina get it together, I expect a 3 – 1 win.

    Vamos Argentina!

The Argentines are lost at the moment. Big names on jerseys is all they are. Underperforming is their specialty.

    Colombianos 2-0 :D

The first post has Argentina's fullbacks inverted/wrong: Zabaleta is slated to start on the right, with Zanetti taking over the left side.

    Re: Argentina Vs Colombia

Colombia wins 4-0 with Messi missing 3 pks all commited by Luis Perea who then breaks his leg and Cristian Zapata gets to start for Colombia the rest of the tournament :)

    Goals from Falcao (2x), Teo(1x), Banega :)

    batista planea invertirlos

armero seria neutralizado y lavezzi tendria mas espacio.

    sera un partido muy tactico

An update has been posted - argentinafans.com, the line up is:

    ———– Sergio Romero
    Zabaleta — Burdisso — Milito — Zanetti
    – — – — Mascherano — Cambiasso
    – — – — – — – Banega
    Lavezzi — Messi — Tevez

Unless there's any last minute changes. I say DROP Lavezzi and Tevez. Start Aguero and Di Maria!

Argentina have one field player over 180cm, Colombia have 7! This could be painful at corners and freekicks.

Colombia does not cross the ball and only passes the ball during corners:p

SI ES POR los comentarios de cazxilokombia.....no le respondas, el cada tema o partido de Colombia lo convierte en un hate fest vs su DT and federacion.

he can not cope with the real issues of current soccer......his eyes and trolls are educated in private schools of NJ and boston....hard to understand realities of southamerican futebol.

2-0 Argentina, Colombia struggled to score one goal with a man advantage against Costa Rica and I think with Kun starting along Messi we should see a goal in the first half the home crowd is roaring it for sure I would have to imagine.

Burdisso vs Falcao :) I like those odds

Haha Argentina you guys don't know what defending is if you really put Burdisso to defend Falcao unless your idea was break our boys leg. He can maybe do that but thats about it.

Really who is a shitter defender Burdisso or Luis Perea.

I feel we will get 6 Pks, you guys will miss 3 because of LAP errors and we will make 3 off Burdisso errors :)

Colombia seems to want to play like everyone else plays against us; let us win on time of possesion but wait for a mistake to counter attack.

Damn, is that the universal book on us?

Banega doesn't understand that a short pass from Messi 10-meters from the box is not suppose to be "hey Ever, shoot on goal" - those things are suppose to be 1-2 passes with Messi.

Please take Lavezzi out. This guy does nothing with the ball. Nothing.
