Argentina, Chile Get Set To Play In Expensive 2016 Copa America Final

By Greg Cohen on Jun 24, 2016 at 3:39 PM
The 2016 Copa America Tournament has been very exciting, and now it all comes down to the final game for this year’s event.

Argentina and Chile will meet in the 2016 Copa America Final on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This will actually be a rematch of last year’s Copa America Finals, when Chile won, 4-1, in a shootout in its home country. Fans traveling to this game can find great options for MetLife Stadium parking, as there should be a huge turnout on hand.

To reach the Final, Argentina defeated the U.S. men’s national soccer team quite easily, 4-0, in the semifinals, while Chile downed Colombia, 2-0, in the other semifinal bout. After losing its first game against Argentina in the Group Stage, Chile has won four straight games, while Argentina has not suffered a loss in this tournament. Meanwhile, the United States and Colombia will square off in a third-place matchup on Saturday. The United States will try to avenge its group stage loss to Colombia in this contest, while Chile will try to become the first country to repeat as Copa champions since 1946-47, when, coincidentally, Argentina completed the feat. They’ll be trying to prevent Chile from repeating that history.

Argentina and Chile, two rivals on the international stage, have a long storied rivalry that dates back to 1910. Argentina is 59-7-22 against Chile and has won four of its last five meetings. Argentina, however, has struggled to cash in on a major tournament championship. With its 60th win over Chile, Argentina will lock in a major tournament championship for the first time in over 20 years. Led by Lionel Messi, anything is possible for the boys in blue in an effort to secure their first major tournament title. Expect Messi to play some brilliant soccer on the pitch this weekend, as he seemingly always does.

While the championship matchup will not feature the United States club, fans are still willing to pay premiums on the secondary ticket market. In fact, on TiqIQ, the average ticket price for the Copa America Championship is a whopping $1,062.63, while the get-in ticket price is $382. These ticket prices are easily the highest of the entire Copa America tournament, and since the game will be played just outside of New York City, expect fans to flock to MetLife Stadium. Parking tends to be a hassle at these events, but ParkWhiz makes things easy when looking for New York City parking.

The stakes are high between these two clubs, so expect an emotional battle as Argentina attempts to take the proverbial monkey off of its back, while Chile is seeking to make history and win back-to-back tournaments for the first time in 70 years.
